I'm heading down to Wales next week with work. I'll be checking out some trails with a hand-cycling colleague and am just trying to decide whether to take my MTB (long ish travel enduro bike) or gravel (Nukeproof digger, knobbly tyres).
I've ridden Verderers a while back on a MTB and it was fun, but I think I'd be happy enough on a gravel. I don't know brechfa though. What would you recommend? All other things being equal, it's slightly easier to take the gravel as it takes less space in the van.
Can't comment on Brechfa as haven't been there for 15 odd years. As for the Verderers, well I use the final descent on my commute quiet often. It's fine on 35mm road tyres with guards and a Carradice bag. No doubt you'll take the jumps a touch faster on a MTB but a bit of air under those 35s is fun.
Derwen green will be fine on a gravel bike.
Thank you. Is Derwen blue significantly more technical than the green? I don't mind a bit of rough terrain on the cx, but if it's really rocky or rooty I'd prefer some suspension.
A blast round the old family cycle trail in the dean with a diversion for a coffee at mallards pike is great on a gravel bike. Prob a nicer ride that the verderers on a gravel bike, cover a bit more ground and see a bit more of the scenery.
The Derwen blue is just the green with an extra climb/descent thrown in, I've done it on my CaaDX a few times without any problems.
Yup, the blue is an additional extension. The blue descent is a bit faster, rockier, not as wide.
Use a MTB on the Verderers you can use a gravel bike I have done the lauch pad of a CX bike more fun on a MTB though.
