Considering riding at Brechfa tomorrow but wondering if the trails are impassable?

Don't know about the trails but the area in general was hit pretty hard by Storm Darragh. Some roads were still impassable when I was working over there week before Christmas. Huge areas of trees down.

It’s all closed. Have a look at Brechfa MTB (CIC) on Facebook for updates but I don’t think there is any chance of a ride there for months.

The Troserch Woods trails near Llanelli are all open bar one trail. They are short and sweet but good fun if you are nearby.

Hafod trails also open I'm told. Weather is awful here at the moment though!

Any update on this?

It always seems that Brechfa is closed whenever I fancy a trip, so not holding my breath…

No trails are anywhere near being open. It sounds like the local club might have permission to start doing some basic work but the shattered trees across whole hillsides mean it’s a huge job. IMG_7492.png

Thanks. That looks apocalyptic.

That's very much the appropriate description.

I took a look at Brechfa today. There's some progress with opening the trails. The Derwent green is open. It's the trail with the warp speed roller coaster jumpy descent that flies back down to the carpark.

The blue variant is still unavailable 😔.

The Gorlech (red) is partially open but much of the fun is inaccessible because of the damage from the storm.

The Raven (black) can be ridden in a shorter format that includes the corkscrew, the jump section and the four tops (the big ol' tabletops). The singletrack return is fine but the log bridge is closed sadly.

I decided to do an XC route instead; the area has a very lot of many cracking RoWs indeed. Bergwm- Pentre Evan - Banc Farm is still a favourite of mine. The meadows at the top are sublime, say "hello" to Pen y Fan before using the slippy rocky track back to the valley.

Inquisitiveness got the better of me though and when I found an unmarked trail of course I was tempted - only to pop out at the top of the Derwent climb up from the Riverside hut. It would have been rude not to return on the Raven though. So I did. And then the final km of the mega fun Derwent.

Moral of the story: take a map as well as tracklogs, there's still leads of riding to be had. 😁
