Break in at Bikes for Refugees Glasgow - could you help?

There's been a break in at the Glasgow workshop of Bikes for Refugees. They give out bikes to refugees seeking asylum - asylum seekers are given £45 a week, which after food leaves them with essentially nothing for transport to things like meetings with lawyers, or to see family and friends. A free bike means a free way for them to get around, and a small bit of freedom which really helps with their wellbeing.

Someone's pinched a load of bikes that were to be given out, along with a cargo biked used for carting kit around, tools and laptops. With an already long waiting list for bikes this is a bit of a problem.

Almost every bike given out has been donated by members of the public, and is done up by either a volunteer or one of three permanent mechanics.

Rather than the usual "keep your eyes peeled" post, I'm asking if anyone could please help out with old bike parts, a bike that's gathering dust in the back of the shed, tools or, even better, time to service bikes. There's also a workshop in Edinburgh, where I volunteer, if anyone further east in the central belt wants to help.

Have a look on our website, or feel free to message me on here.

@dmorts - naturally after this week I'm a bit wary about posting the location but I'll send you a PM. For anyone else willing to help, PM me or email through the website.

@the_kenburg - I can sorta see why it happened. If you're living a tough life and need some money, and see refugees coming and believe the nonsense that they'll steal your job, if you steal from a charity that helps them then it's a victimless crime. It doesn't excuse it, though.

That's sh*t. I'm in Leeds, I've some odds & sods which I'll rummage through to see if there is anything worth sending, but have made a donation instead.

I'll help.  I've got a singlespeed bike that I built up having 'rescued' the frame from Ebay.  In all honesty it's probably my favourite bike but I have several others and this is the one I can afford to lose.  I'll be very sad to see it go but I can't hold on to it in good conscience when it could bring some joy to someone who needs it.

I've filled in the form on the website so I presume someone will get in touch about collection / drop off at some point.

@dyna-ti - I am pretty sure it's in Govan and open every weekday and some of the weekend. There's a form on the website to fill out for donations and someone will be in touch.

Thanks for the donations everyone, it will make a big difference.

Just seen this. There's some really **** people in the world. Had been deliberating about some of those cheap 5:10s from Evans but I don't really need them right now, so gave the money to bikes4refugees instead.

Thanks for the donations and kind words everyone - the reception has been amazing.

Special shout outs go to @bikerevivesheffield, who has done and amazing job organising his pals and customers' donations, and to Roots Cycles from Doune who donated five brand new bikes for us to sell to raise funds (selling a few fancy bikes = funds for many more less fancy bikes to give away).

Check them out if you've just finished the Monty Python themed tour of their local castle-
