Would buy another On One or a bike off Brant...don't think I'd buy anything off NewRobDob though 😉
Our offer to dissatisfied Inbred owners still stands - just send us your bank details and log-in along with a vague idea of when you might have bought the bike and we'll do the rest.
edit: outstanding thread, who says this forum isn't what it used to be, even if you do have to wait nine years for the punch line 🙂
Thanks @ restlesshawn - Certainly a tidy build, and sounds like it works well. Definitely given me some inspiration for mine, as it's a tough frame in the right size for me and I still have a few decent-ish 26" tyres hanging around and lots of parts.
@Brant - I really enjoy riding my Camino AL v1 but after nearly a year of ownership, I've just realised that whilst riding it I am missing out on doing other things and it's ALL your fault. You're a bad man, you owe me some time.
Can you reimburse me? Please? Pretty Please?
PS My dentist is in Todmorden, does this make my sad story more compelling?
I was neither.
Brotherly love only goes so far it seems.
As far as I am concerned the matter is now closed and I won’t be mentioning it again.
Hahahahahah awesome
Brant, Brant, Brant.
You know earlier when I said I really liked my Stif Morf? Thing is it made me want to ride beyond my ability a few times. This, unfortunately, resulted in me falling off or being scared on a few occasions. I’ve tried putting a price on the trauma and psychological damage this has caused.
How does £43 sound?
Thanks scotroutes, you've just made my day. Top marks. This thread is right up there now with sudacream cat and louise.
Brant, don't pay him, if you really want to then give the money to his brother. He's the only one with any evidence of a problem.
>Brant, don’t pay him, if you really want to then give the money to his brother.
>He’s the only one with any evidence of a problem.
Too late.
My earlier post has been deleted???
Weird how it's ok to lie and whinge like a baby (for nine years on and off it seems) to the point where you guilt someone to giving you your money back - just so you'll give over your gurning gob, but it's not OK to call some out for acting like a wab???
I'm in half a mind to seek post deletion trauma compensation
Anyway, good luck with the job Brant. And if you could remember to give us taller riders a bit more standover in the XL frames that'd be real nice 😀
What's a wab?
I had a dark blue 456, all my mates (well 2 of them) had Ti 456's.
Can I claim compensation for the mental anguish I suffered over the years of always being the poor relation in the group?
I wouldn't mind some for my C456 that they ratted out of the warranty on.
What’s a wab?
Norn Iron slang for dick, Damascus
Brant and I have exchanged lots of words over the years about this so it’s nice to sort it out eventually. It’s a nice gesture he’s made which he really didn’t have to do at all and I wasn’t going to accept it at first but I do need to fix my current bike (actually the one I bought after the inbred in 2009, I still have it as my only off road bike) as the suspension seals have gone and the cranks are bent so at the moment no off road for me.
First of all I must say, for the first time in ages, this thread has been wonderful :-). I suspect Brant might be too much of a gentleman to answer directly, but if you paid the money, did you do so before or after the old classified thread was found along with the admission that there was no problem with the bike (thread suggests it was paid before).
Nobody with an inch of pride, or any sense of decency would accept the payment after that. Disgusting behaviour.
I need to fix my bike but I wouldn't expect anyone else to pay for it as the result of a falsified problem. I suppose youre one of those prople who will claim for anything, the American way.,at. the expense of others. I know who I won't be helping out on this forum.

Yep, agreed. If you value your reputation at £250, I'm guessing you don't really care what other people think of you though.
So, will a limited edition super special 853 Inbred singlespeed now become a cult collectors item? Not that there's one in my garage that barely gets used these days...
It's always nice to be around when a new STW meme is born.
It’s always nice to be around when a new STW meme is born.
And you are the Daddy
I think given the bike has been sold on in slightly shady circumstances - either a pretend fault or a genuine fault hidden from am unsuspecting second owner - the decent thing to do would be for newrobdob to donate Brant's £250 to a charity and regain some portion of self (and community) respect.
Any nominations what charity or good cause it should be?

Indeed, this and sweat rotted straps in one week. If nothing else we've got a lot of millage out of OO this week.

I am beginning to suspect this is a bit of a guerilla advertising campaign.
I find it hard to believe that Brant would be involved in anything so underhand.
Frankly I am stunned that this money was accepted, is there anyway to block a forum member so I have no way of accidentally dealing with them
in future?
Brant, all the best. I’m personally looking forward to Onone developing more value frames. Specifically a more modern 45650b...maybe a longer version of the deedar? I’m sold if so...
My earlier post has been deleted???
The one where you suggested newrobdob was an onanist and should be sent a belly wipe kit rather than cash? Despite it's accuracy I suspect you fell foul of the swear filter avoidance rule.

Hahaha!
Not trying to derail the thread but what happened to Peterpoddy. He used to be all over this forum.
Brilliant, properly brilliant! Not Ling levels of brilliant but still brilliant.
Robdob, you have no shame if you don’t refund or pass the money on. You not getting as much as you wanted for a bike is not Brant or OO’s fault. You state in the add the issue you’ve been bleating about is not a problem. Damned either way cocker.
Never wanted an OO but my mate has had plenty and loves his 8 year old Inbred. It’s been SS, Alfine, 3x9, 1x10 and just keeps trucking. The current stuff looks mince but if they can get back to producing gear like the early stuff that will be a good thing.
Brant, don’t pay him, if you really want to then give the money to his brother.
He’s the only one with any evidence of a problem.
This is true to be fair! 🙂 I think I had more than one conversation with Brant about it many moons ago too.
This was mine after a year riding. I replaced the middle chainring at the first sign of chain suck (Think I did 3) and this happened

This was the new stay I had put in at Argos Cycles, cost me about £220 with the paint if I recall correctly

It's proper been through the wars that frame but I love it. It's had rigid, 100mm, 120mm, 130mm ,140mm forks on it, it's been an MTB, single speed, tourer, commuter (rack and mudguards, the lot) and I've spent probably about £50-£100 more on repairing it than I did the original frame! But it's still going, I don't ride it a lot and other bikes have come and gone (Carbon 456, 853 Saracen Kili Flyer, Trek Stache) and I'll never, ever sell it. 🙂
It's been through the wars
Not trying to derail the thread but what happened to Peterpoddy. He used to be all over this forum.
Still here. More of a lurker these days though, I look once a day at least but I've got better things to do mostly and I don't sit at a desk all day any more, I fix bikes for a living now. 🙂
EDIT
In a strange coincidence I was offered an interview at On-One a few months ago, but I'd just started another job closer to home... 🙂
This thread started off okay but went off on a tangent. If Brant is back at On One I'm looking forward to the next batch of products with comedy names.

A new 456 with no improved chainstay as there's nothing wrong with the 9 year old version, and cashback with every purchase? What to call it? Newrobdob Edition? 😂😂😂
Brant, If they do an e-bike, given that they are Yorkshire based, please call it the Um

Yeah, we need names that have continuity.
So for the successor to the Pompino - the Swallow.
For the Inbred - the Mutant
I'm sure STW can help out the O-O marketting dept with other suitable choices... 🙂
For the first couple couple of years I took the bike names at face value until someone in the bike club explained them.
An e bike pompino could be called an autopompino. That way it gives a nod to its heritage but still let's you know its an e bike. Come on, who wouldn't try an autopompino at least once? 🤔
Brant, I still adore my ti 456 evo and have spent countless wonderful hours on it.
can I buy you beer and curry if you’re ever In Hong Kong ?!

I can't believe he accepted the money either. Got to be some bad karma in his future for that!

If newrobdob has any self respect at all, he needs to pay back the money, or donate to charity, and apologise, or it's time to retire from the forum imo. I hope it was worth it for £250. On the other hand, Brant has gone up massively in my estimations, in terms of integrity and business savvy if nothing else.
I've no grudge to bear against Brant or on-one, and no doubt RobDob has acted weird but does no-one think it's od Brant popping into Rob's classified ad to state he needs to sort out an issue on a frame, and then saying how the new frames that on-one are selling will be improved?
but does no-one think it’s od Brant popping into Rob’s classified ad to state he needs to sort out an issue on a frame, and then saying how the new frames that on-one are selling will be improved?
I think there are too many examples of OO/PX frames with a fundamental design or manufacturing fault.
I must say I feel let down newrobdob.
Every time we happy On-One owners defended our decision to own an On-One, he instantly interceded and told us how our paint was going to fall off and our chainstays were going to disintegrate and if not, the sky would fall upon our heads.
Despite many owners pointing out they had owned, used and abused the bikes for several years without this happening, and if it did, so what, the bike was cheap and the pence per mile return was great, he ardently maintained his position .
He would not accept our argument that we knew at that price the bikes may not be perfect but we bought them with realistic expectations of what they were, good handling no frills bikes.
When he failed to convert us to his cause it usually ended up with us labelled as fanbois, which I believe is a category of punka wallah.
So I admired his vehement persistence and adherence to the cause of bringing down the repressive mighty O-O empire which, after all, is far from perfect.
Now I is disappoint. 🙁
.
BTW Brant has played a blinder in restoring O-O's reputation. £250 was never better spent. This may end up in the business texts as the opposite of a Ratner moment. 🙂
Let's brainstorm on new products names:
Lady pleasurer (comfy seat post)
Wakey Lady (women's fat bike?)
Nah then
The Heathcliff
Big Unit or Pie Eater (men's fat bike)
The Misogynist (for the elderly gentleman's Sunday ride)
So, I've had a few on one frames, and always enjoyed them. The last was a 45650b which was great. But now, I've become accustomed to modern geometry, and their frames seem a bit dated for me personally.
I hope there will be some new designs soon.
I saw this thread start a few days ago and was amazed to see it run to 8 pages! The whole Robdob affair seems a little odd but to be fair he has a point on the frame being fundamentally flawed and whilst plenty of people seem to have an awful lot of money on this forum and can afford to just buy other stuff some people don't. It's seems some questionable behaviour from both sides but nice to see it resolved either way.
I've always thought of Brant as a bit of a legend and the way he would be active on this forum is something some other manufacturers could learn from. As for me, my Ragley blue pig was an amazing bike! I loved it. I've had others but it holds a real special place for me and was that bike that really allowed me to push my skills and make me the half decent rider that I am today. It took me to my first proper trips away, Various places in Wales, Fort William WC course as well. I was forced to sell it a few years back to make space but I couldn't see it go so sold it on the cheap to my friend who lives down the road, that way I still get to ride it!
Good luck Brant, perhaps you can bring OO/PX back from being cheap to being good value. There is a big difference and in today's times of biking becoming the new golf and people willing to spend insane amounts on fancy new standards etc.. , consequently driving the price of biking through the roof, there has never been a better time to offer some good quality and sensibly priced stuff to the rest of us.

Brant has played a blinder in restoring O-O’s reputation
Nah. Brant has restored Brants reputation (not that it really needed it).
Well this thread took a turn, highly amusing looking in from the outside
@Newrobdob I'm guessing you have the means to pass that cash on to your brother, might be the gentlemanly thing to do

I wonder what conversion Damascus was using…
*Probably “The Damascus’ theory that OO are shite”
* Disclaimer - This might be true these days 😂
However I rocked the single speed steely bitd and absolutely loved it. Although chainsuck on new Inbred was such a royal pita that that got moved on sharpish!
The Dirty Harry that suceeded those was my first foray into carbon frames and 29ers and wow! This think was quick, direct and comfortable except had some funky headset issues iirc but could have been the fork bung in the rigid carbons. :/
I honestly believe that Brant and fellow colleagues were doing it for the love and to create an opportunity out designing frames etc to begin with.
Later on down the line, it expands at such a rate so are we customers to partially blane for overloading them (probably not) just it’s like the old saying,
give them an inch, and they’ll... meaning in my context that the cheaper they offer something for, the more expectations a customer has.
Oh! I have never had a bad experience with them over the phone and Brant was instantly helpful bitd over a chain tug query.
👍 even though I should have returned that chain sucked new inbred frame.
Newrobdob I’m guessing you have the means to pass that cash on to your brother, might be the gentlemanly thing to do
God no. Nowt to do with me, I don’t wanna get involved in that up there! ^^ 😀
Clearly I'm a bit late to the party. My OO/PX experiences have all been great -shoot me now. Forks ,frames ,gloves, bib shorts, helmets, glasses, tubes, tyres,so many tyres,MTB,road,CX and commuter, pedals, tools, pumps, bags, tubeless tape and fluid, hats caps merino sweater etc etc.My 2008 "gas pipe"456 is still going strong,a great versatile design and was £120 including headset iirc.I rode it with a 120 and then a 160 fork for a few years then sold it for the much lauded Evil Sovereign in Tange rather than 853 flavour but still 3 times the price of the 456.By comparison it was heavy, dull and just didn't make me want to go out and ride like my 456. Suffice to say I sold the Sovereign and bought my old 456 back from the guy I had sold it to and still ride it now. If ever I win the Southcoast suspension win your dream bike draw I intend to eschew the carbon Santa Cruz bling ting and get 4 OO/PX offerings instead 🙂
Have been following the thread and thinking about it all my bikes excluding the full suss are on one/ planet x.
Like all my frames and but the newer geometry didn't suit me being tall, if and newer frame are drawn up consider longer and taller for xl. I find the 20" seat tube make the bike look strange with two foot of seat post sticking out.
Since designing and building my own bike i've much respect for any bike designers. Front triangles are fair simple but the bb area and joining rear triangle to the front whilst making the joint strong enough. The thought of doing it to a time limit, produced in another continent and to have every imperfection picked over is just not fun.

Don't you think the above is just a little bit over judgmental?
I mean, you seriously think he should leave the forum over this?
Come on.
I have no doubt that the inbred fault was a real thing, was accepted as such and rectified later. On One have been the Ryanair of bikes for years and they are what they are. The issue is that RobDob sold it on stating that the known problem was fine even though he would then bleat on about how not fine it was for years. Terrible form.
& on that note, BACK TO THE BRANT MOBILE ! 😆
Don’t you think the above is just a little bit over judgmental?

It sure puts the realman brakes saga in the shade
Coooome again ?
I mean, you seriously think he should leave the forum over this?
Certainly not! I think he should keep Brant's £250, and offer his opinion at every opportunity. It'll be much more fun. 😃
Confused here - error in not reading the whole thread and then reading the classified ad.
Has someone just been given a cash gift for something they bought nine years ago & said they had no problem with in the add thread?
Turns out it wasn't actually him that bought it. It was his brother in law.
The 2007 Inbred 29er that I still have in almost daily use as a commuter may be a bit scruffy in places but has done many thousands of miles rigid and at times suspended as a road and off-road commuter, sportif road bike, tourer, trailer tug and everything else. The paint hasn't lasted as well as the 'Barry White' finish on my 26" Inbred hill-commuter frame but that paint job is special; deep gloss black with gold flecks and after 8 years in that case, not a flake, crack or scrap of rust anywhere. Both have been stunning value over their life spans.
I've never been unhappy with O-O service or quality/value for money. I hope Brant can help breathe new life back into the organisation.
Brant Brant Brant - how long between you rejoicing and your designs becoming available to buy?
Hobnobrobber has went very quiet ?
Good to know the Gods of quixotism are alive and well on stw amongst some posters.

No, he's opinionated, his opinions are not always right but that never stops him which means he's perfect for stw.
I can't believe that anyone would seriously think it was okay to accept 250 pounds from the pocket of a former employee of a company that they'd felt had underperformed. To take the money in order to fix a problem with a completely different bike having sold the initial one whilst claiming to have no issues with it truly is underhand. Not too late to do the right thing and give the money back, unless you've already spent the money on some cheap upgrades for your new bike from Planet X / On-One 😉
Sometimes, this place is odd.
People are very odd.
Good luck Brant. Looking forward to seeing your new toys.
Me too.
Daughter has a newish Inbred and a PX Carbon roadie.
Bikes are ace, customer service variable, which isn't his fault. Quite the opposite in fact.
He's a nice bloke. He hasn't bought me a curry but he did give my Mrs a free torch at HtN which, coincidentally enough expired last week.
Any chance of a new one?
If OO were to take this thread and print it on a t-shirt I'd probably buy one in each colour.
Order about four sizes larger than you need, eh?
Just, you know....🙂
Like my td-1 longest surviving bike I reckon.
My summer season helds its own in the Alps as well
Wish id bought an early pomp rather than the tricross ss I did buy though 🙁
No, he’s opinionated, his opinions are not always right but that never stops him which means he’s perfect for stw.
Opinionated is perfect for the forum but the hypocrisy really brings it alive
Back on topic, just had a look at their frames. Now there was always something you would think “hmm” about, the old inbred or the 456, but just now? Old looking frame geo and a rest home for 135qr. Hope Brant has a new box of pencils.
Some people would steal the wallet from a pensioner they are helping up.
I’m with you duckman I’ve had frames before which I’ve really liked (29 inbred particularly, only got rid to help a mate) but they look a bit tired now - I’d like a longer reach frame in either 29 or 650b+
People are very odd.
Shhhhhhh 🤫
you’ll lose subs to P status/mag now.
Time for a stealth edit 😬
