Provide receipts.

oh come on, who keeps receipts for that long.

well played for trying to appear to care. 🙄 9yrs too late than OO should've done anything about it.

Those 853 Inbreds were the nicest steel frame I ever rode. Fantastic value for £250 as well. Dont know what it was that made them ride so well.  Think I ended up with 3 in various guises. Only thing that rides as well is my Stanton Sherpa and I have had a lot of On Ones, Singulars, Niners, Cotics etc etc in the mean time. But yeah the chainstay clearance to chainring really was rubbish!

I havent bought anything from Planet X for a while either. Think for me its the chaotic pricing and postage for one. I see something I like, and when I go back the price has changed, so I just think meh and look else where. The other thing as well is the names of the bikes that puts me right off. Pickenflick (what a bogey??), Bish Bash Bosh (doesnt really ooze quality does it - friday afternoon build?). Some of the well documented QC issues are a bit off putting as well. And wtf is going on with the ice cream cones on the Holdsworth range?

Thats said for balance, Planet X are currently returning an 8 year old frame to the manufacturer for its second repair under its lifetime warranty - there was no quibbling about it either. Not many other suppliers would do that. The frame has been very well used.

I do hope Brant back there produces a bit more commercial, brand and quality consistency.

It's quite a long time to hold a grudge about the failure of a very cheap frame too.

Well, I've still got all of the receipts for my Roberts DogBolx that I built up 17 years ago.

Is it?

If you get a poor product and  service why continue to use that company. I point blank refuse to deal with Arnold Clark due to their shite CS. from years ago.

Not really. He is posting on a thread about on-one along with others sharing their experiences and stories. It's not like he took an ad out in a bike mag and it's not like it was a one off event 9 years ago either, quality of product and service has been shite ever since.

Tough crowd today!

Congrats on the new role brant, I had a Blue Pig X which I loved, sold it to a madman who bent it in half casing a double at BUCS.

As much as OO/PX may have problems with various parts of the business, brant has only just rejoined them... Give the man a chance to effect change, eh? No need for some of the aggression on here, calm it doon.

I think it says more about you than anything.

TBH it's probably more to do with the industry and how it's changed and is still changing.

Now is probably the first time that I haven't got an On-one of some description in the garage (sold my last one to buy a road bike boo!!)

Had a white 26" Inbred, 29er Scandal and a 29er Inbred - all were spot on, and no QC issues (apart from me having to do the hammer trick on the 26" Inbred) - and rode brilliantly.

The recent frames haven't floated my boat (Deedar, Parkwood etc) Looking forward to seeing what Brant can do. I certainly wouldn't rule out another On-one in my near future.

Yes really :-), because in this case it's more like a bitter grudge, than merely repeating experiences.  And a decade is a looooooong time to have been banging on about it.  FWIW I couldn't give a toss about On One either way.

@newrobdob

"Unfortunately the apology you have found didn’t give me back the large amount of money I lost on that frame when I sold it."
- how much money did you lose - be honest! </span>

"I saved up for months to buy that frame from my wages so it hurt a lot (had to get my first CC to buy a replacement)"
- you did not HAVE to get a CC. You chose to to do this, grow up.

Can't say fairer than that! Absolutely shoots down all "bad CS" bullshit. Brant can't be held historically responsible for old issues (FFS it's a website about bikes with a few grumpy old men as main players, not warcrimes trials at The Hague), but he's shown a fantastic willingness here to try and resolve what is clearly a highly emotionally charged issue for newrobdob. I'd take that as a great statement of intent as to where he wants to position product, service and support for the brand now it's back under his tenure.

Fair play Brant, fair play.

Just to balance things out a bit the Stif Morf is an extremely sweet bike. Not On One, but Brant designed and a great bike. Would’ve kept it if my aging bones weren’t asking me for a full suspension 😕

I made the mistake of selling my 29er SS Inbred. I used the cash plus added more of my own, to buy a more boutique 853 frame from another northern HT specialist. I can't say it was any better, but lots of people went 'ooh, nice frame' when they saw it.  But it then cracked, and because I wasn't the original owner they wouldn't commit to repairing, but would 'try it' at my cost. So i resold to someone who had better skilz than me and to my knowledge they welded a new reinforcing collar around where it had cracked and it's still being used.

I feel for being daft, I ought to send Brant some money?

Were you missold an On One Inbred or other bike? Have you suffered serious psychological damage dating back years as a result? Don't despair, there's still time to claim substantial damages. Just text us on 'affordablesteelframescam2009' and we'll let you know exactly how much money Brant owes you. No need to talk to anyone or make any sort of effort, we'll do all the griping and grumbling for you. Don't delay though, the deadline for claims is 1 April, 2019.

Absolutely not. All you need is anecdotal evidence of ownership and we'll do the rest for you. Just send us your bank account details and associated passwords and we'll check how much money you're owed. All you have to do is sit back and wait for a big fat cheque to drop onto your doorstep. Everyone wins!!!

This isn’t a new thing. Brant knows I’ve going on about this for many years. So it’s not jumping on the bandwagon at all.

you did not HAVE to get a CC. You chose to to do this, grow up.

Yes i I do know this. I’m not an idiot. Glad you are enjoying your internet hard man role.

I sold it before it failed so I could try and get some money back and wasn’t expecting to have to do so so I got a 0% CC to make up the shortfall for a new bike - Specialized Pitch 2009 which is still my main bike.

Brant - message incoming. That is a very kind gesture. I think I need to forget about this now. Hopefully any new projects you get into are successful.

You KNOWINGLY sold a defective frame design to someone (probably on here too)? You bastard!

They may have built it into a bike for their child to ride, which subsequently killed a baby robin's face. Double bastard!

What's Paul Dacre's number.....

Hes he’s not trolling. It’s all perfectly true. I seem to remember Brant even said something like ‘I should have sorted that chainstay clearance out’ on his for sale post in the classifieds when he sold it. Which put people off.....

Anyhow. I’ve still got mine (and the receipt I think....) and mine had the same godawful chainring clearence. I literally went through the chainstay in a year of riding and had a new (straighter) stay put in by Argos Cycles. That cured it 100%. It’s a great frame, I’ll never sell it. But the design/testing was woeful.

I had one of the £400 geared Inbreds that I slowly killed and singlespeeded over five years or so, until it got nicked. Loved it.

I replaced that with one of the taperlock slot dropout singlespeed Inbred frames, which is still my main MTB. Turns out that was seven years ago; bloodly hell! I've never really fully liked this frame, but not enough to get rid, as I have a few niggles with it. I don't think Brant designed this one though?

Make an affordable version of the TD-1 pretty please. Best bike I've ever ridden.

Surely you won’t be accepting the full purchase price offered by Brant if you actually sold the frame on to someone else ? 🤔

I had a 18" 'that blue' 456, which I liked but always felt was a bit small, then got a 20" glittery-poo-brown 456, which was brill. I should have kept it really, I got rid of it for a 19" Genesis Altitude 853, which has always felt a bit small...

Yes I sold it on eBay in the end as I was unable to sell it on here. I sold the whole complete bike for not much more than I bought the frame for, despite it having Hope wheels, brakes, XT stuff, Magura forks and nice finishing kit. Thinking about it - it would have probably been better to sell all the bits separately and I’d have got the sale price just selling the parts off and not the frame

The guy I sold it to I delivered it to him myself (IIRC it was a nice house in Leeds) and warned him to keep an eye out on the chainstay and make sure he checked it regularly. So my conscience is clear. Hopefully it serves him well

As far as I am concerned the matter is now closed and I won’t be mentioning it again.

Brant and I have exchanged lots of words over the years about this so it’s nice to sort it out eventually.  It’s a nice gesture he’s made which he really didn’t have to do at all and I wasn’t going to accept it at first but I do need to fix my current bike (actually the one I bought after the inbred in 2009, I still have it as my only off road bike) as the suspension seals have gone and the cranks are bent so at the moment no off road for me.

I wish Brant success in any new ventures, and while I’ll never fit into his special trousers maybe one day I’ll ride one of his bikes again.

restlesshawn - really like your build! I'm thinking of changing my town Inbred back into a real bike again, and thinking about a fatter front. What fork have you used - looks like the inbred chromo or fatty fork...with rivnuts!??

Current guise is this, with original M755 XT 4 pot and shimano stainless hose! The inbred wasn't quite right for my main MTB (high BB mainly) but i like it's versatility and solidity - and looks. Brant - will you resurrect the De Kerf tribute seatstays?

@faustas Thanks.  They are the On One chromo forks for 26" wheels, 440mm a2c.  My brother brazed 3 bottle cage bosses in to them for me so I can mount stuff there if I want, also brazed a proper cable guide on at the same time.  Front wheel is a 27.5 with a Maxxis rekon 2.8.  Rims are Velocity blunt 35mm so it's fattish but doesn't look too odd.  The midge bars went on as my hands suffer with flat bars bikepacking for a few days.  It's like an trusty old friend.
