So I went off the reviews and plumped for a 200mm 31.6 seatpost to replace my ethirteen one.
Opened it up, looked correct, go to fit it and it’s baggy in the seattube! But it’s the same size on the print! All I can think is it’s actually a 30.9 branded wrongly!
Also I don’t understand how the spelling mistakes are so bad too on a production item! Anyone else had this? It’s being returned anyway!
Measure the OD of the new post.
I’ve got one. Fits perfectly and has been very reliable for the last 18 months.
To be fair they do get good reviews .. I think you’ve been unlucky. Perhaps let CRC try to resolve the problem.
I don’t have any accurate way of measuring such as a vernier gauge, anyway you can imagine my frustration…. Take the time to get the bike out (which is a challenge with how secure they are) get my hopes up and it doesn’t fit, meaning got to do it all in reverse and put the old broken one back in!
Oh I will do, what was also ironic was when I went to rant about it on here and the site was down!
Not the first thing that’s gone wrong, such as the 5 pairs of trousers I had to buy to find the right ones, still waiting on the Dharco’s to be approved through NL customs before I get refunded with the £125!
Word to the wise, if you want something from abroad, be very prepared to not expect a quick turnaround if you need to return it!!
Use a bit of string to measure the circumference then you can work out the diameter
Also just realised it wasn’t from CRC, I thought it was… which will probably mean I’ll have a bigger issue getting it sorted!
more likely to be your frame isn’t the size you thought it was…

Well, yeah obviously.

We had that conversation daughter when she was about 17 I think
But I do hope the dropper post gets sorted

Hope she understood ok 😉
I’ve bought 3 Brand X droppers and despite the lack of correct English translation on the box and probably in the instructions, they’ve all been absolutely fine. Fitted the frames fine.
One was from that pesky CRC too!
Can you just measure it with a ruler?
Send it back and ge5 them to send you another one.
If you have any chew returning, I have an actual 31.6 one which is pretty new.
Assuming yours actually 30.9 I'd be happy to do a swap. PM if interested.
Also, you can get shims to make a 30.9 fit in a 31.6 seat tube for a few quid.
Thanks for the offer, I’ll just get them to send the right size one as don’t want to mess about with shims as the old one didn’t need it.
It also turns out it WAS from CRC, but it doesn’t appear under my account, and never received an email about it. Bizarre… anyway I’ll have a friendly word with them tomorrow and get them to send the right one.
Thank you for the offer for the swap but I know CRC’s returns policy is usually spot on, I would say I struggle to understand how basics such as spelling/manufacturer sizing can be wrong but these things happen…somehow!
You've just bought a new seatpost but you're not quite sure what size it is, where you bought it from or whether it came from abroad or not?
Not really worth ranting about. Shit happens.
I once ordered a 2.3 tyre from CRC, a 2.1 arrived so I returned it. Then another 2.1 arrived, checked the box, it said 2.3. Turns out the manufacturer had shipped a whole load of 2.1s in 2.3 boxes. I chuckled.
A pair of callipers are less than £15, buy them and then measure your frame tube (and the dropper) while you're at it.
Order another from crc, check it fits. Send the one that doesn't fit back for refund.

My thoughts also.
Are you sure you actually ordered it? It's beginning to sound like someone's order got sent to your house by mistake and you just assumed it was yours.
Before you send it back, I'd strongly advise you to check how it fits in another 31.6mm frame.
A lot of road bikes are that diameter, along with most MTBs these days. One of your friends will be able to help if you don't have another suitable bike yourself.
As above, my money says it's the frame, not the post.

There was this thing called Brexit that happened a bit ago, kinda f*@ked everything up, most of the wise will have seen it in the news.
Get a ruler, measure across your seat-tube, should be accurate enough to figure out if you have the correct seat-post. It would be a pretty monumental cock up for them to print the wrong diameter on both the post and the packaging.
What frame is it going in?
How we'd laugh if it turned out to be one of those On One "wizard's sleeve" special editions.
If OP's is a 31.6 and it's his frame that he got wrong, then his frame is.. a 34.9? Who makes 34.9 seat tube frames, not many I'd wager
Specialized…
Is your bike a Spesh, OP?
I think the OPs issues are purposeful on behalf of CRC! (tongue in cheek) 😉
I reckon that the CEO of CRC sits all day looking at this forum wondering why nobody is demanding his email address, and so, sends one of his minions on a mission to 'balls' up an order, and get the suppliers to mis-spell something, in the vain hope that an enraged STWer will demand retribution!!!!
Of course, he may also be far too busy doing proper stuff to bother reading STW, so that may have all been a weird figment of my bored imagination!
OP - I had a similar issue with a Brand X seat post in the 30.9 size, I returned it and was sent a 'duplicate' which fitted straight away. Turns out it was a manufacturing fault and the diameter was off by a fraction. I was happy with the replacement. The new owner of the bike was happy with it too when he bought it.
so that may have all been a weird figment of my bored imagination!
Probably... cos he didn't buy it from CRC 😀
cos he didn’t buy it from CRC 😀
It also turns out it WAS from CRC,
I'm bored again 😉
lordy
Regarding the spelling mistakes. Has someone bought one and then returned a fake in its place and got a refund? Happens all the time at amazon.
Ordered another but from wiggle, as I know easy returns. So let’s see!
I hate to break it to you, but CRC and Wiggle are the same company.
That’s okay I know that, to be honest once I’d arranged the return I just bought it from the ford place I saw at the same price.
Good thing is the second one does fit and is fitted! Pretty chuffed, can’t really believe the spelling mistakes even on the replacements box. The first one was definitely a 30.9 but branded wrongly on the post itself!
