Brand X dropper. Not sure what sort but I think it's the standard one with the sealed air shaft. It came on a bike I got off my mate for my son, my mate doesnt really care about the technicalities of bike parts so I don't think he'll be much use with identifying it. He probably doesn't even know it's a brand x....
So anyway, it's not been used for a few months and typically we're planning to get out riding tomorrow and the dropper won't stay up. Gave it some more slack, still the same. removed lever from bars, and took the post out of the frame, disconected cable. Pushed it down and I can hear air coming out as it goes down then just springs back up. I noticed the little pin thng at the bottom doesn't return so I assume there is no pressure. Is it knackered? Can I fix it or do I need a new one?
Also the bottom cap just unscrewed by hand, should it do that? At first I didn;t even mean to unscrew it, it just started to loosen as I was holding it....
Actually, reading the service info on this:
Maybe I just need to take it apart and give it all a good clean and regrease. I'll do that in a minute as I'm working from home and can't really be arsed!!
probably needs a new air cartridge - unless there is a valve to re-pressurise it
Checked under the seat clamp and there is a bolt of some sort, it was completely cacked up, removed most of the dirt but doesn't look like a shrader valve. Not sure if I should try to remove it though....
Edit: looking at the air shaft pics on CRC that bolt is just a bolt holding it together. I'll try a sprice up but I reckon it's new airshaft time. Only £30 so better than a new post.
My BX Ascend has a valve under the saddle clamp that I can fit a shock pump to, covered with a black plastic cap.
Sounds like it just wants a clean. If it's popping back up there's no problem with air pressure IMO.
Tried to take it apart and give it a good clean but the air shaft is stuck up seat post shaft and the bolt that holds it together under the seat clamp is seized....no air valve on this, think that's just the XL versions.
I've left it for the time being after giving it a spray with high penetrant spray. I reckon its gonna end up dead....
It just bounces up and down no matter what position the actuator is in and the little pin just drops in and out
