I have a Brand X Ascend XL internal routed cable actuated dropper the only works in the (really quite) cold.
It worked fine in the summer but following a cold ride (-16/17C, I live in Sweden) it only works in the cold. In the relatively warm temperatures now (2-4C) the lever is jammed solid.
I've checked to make sure that the cable/outer isn't kinked, that the cable moves freely and dis/reassembled the lever.
Does anyone have any suggestions (beyond only riding in the cold)?
Is it an air spring? I'm pretty sure there's an issue with dropper posts getting messed up when they are super cold at full extension, then you bring the bike into the warm and the increasing pressure inside the post causes them to effectively lock out. If you can't let the air out, can you take the post off the bike, put it in the freezer for a bit, then compress it and let it warm up again? Maybe that fixes it?
That could be an idea with the freezer, I'll give it a try...
Yeah, I'd check the seatpost collar.
My current BrandX does this if I leave it fully extended in hot weather.
Easy solution is to make sure you leave the dropper at least slightly down when not riding the bike, however if you forget, take the post out and use a lever of some form to actuate the release and it'll work again.
