Anyone done it and if so how? Both want the nipple end of the cable. Also would make it tricky to add tension without an inline adjuster.

I’ve looked at 5mm knarps (new word for me) but they all look too big for the gap in the lever. It’s external routing btw.

I’ve done it. Brand X post - internal routed - and GRX LH lever. Cable nipple installed at the lever end. Using a ‘knarp’ (although not heard then called that before) at the activator end at base of post. Had to get the cable tension spot on as I’ve not get anything in-line to adjust, but not too much of a faff.

Thanks, although I think the internal one has more leeway as the cable end drops into a barrel so you can swap it for a knarp thing. The external one the cable drops straight into a recess about 5mm x 6mm max.  I’ll order one and see but I think they’ll be too big.

This works perfectly with the brand X ascend at post end

Yep, those locking cable barrels are what you need. I ordered these ones below.

Solderless nipples is the generic term I think?

Standard (BMX brand) marketed them as Knarps in the 90s for shortening Odyssey’s overly long upper Gyro cables.

Does the post not come with one? Plenty dropper levers need the nipple at the lever end.

In-line adjuster definitely beneficial.

Thanks, I had a revelation today that I have a part that will fit if I rotate it 90 degrees. For unknown reasons I didn’t consider that! Thanks everyone, now I need an inline adjuster.

What will/did you use?

I'm in exactly the same situation. I've got an inline adjuster, but when looking for solderless nipples I also thought they all look too big. Was thinking some sort of crimp might work at the (external) seatpost end.

I have a 5mm cable clamp from an old ks lev post that just fits end first. I’ll grab a picture later, don’t know the part number but it is especially compact one.
