I need new freehub bearings for a Hope Pro2 Evo. Hope versions are around a tenner, Brand-X are either £2.50 or a fiver for the 'plus' versions. Any good or worth paying the extra for Hope? Any other recommendations?

No chance I'll get to our local bearing place any time soon sadly (and I'd ideally like it sorted for next weekend).

You ordering the Brand X ones off the internet? Get a decent make (SKF or FAG) from Simply Bearings online.

I did have a look on there, but decent brand ones are more than the Hopes.

Have you looked on eBay etc mate?

I've only ever used one genuine Hope bearing as it was an odd size.

Brand X and most eBay and MTB retailers bearings are cheap Chinese bearings which wont last

Buy cheap buy twice springs to mind

Buy some decent bearings like FAG, NSK, SKF from your local bearing supplier

They are made for industrial conditions, they are made by the Japanese and Germans so quality is top notch and they will last years

Been using them for over 25 years on the BMX, Roadbike and MTB

Tried cheap Chinese bearings once, never again!

Local bearing shop, SKF for me every time. When the bloke behind the counter recommends the SKF as they are miles better I’ll go for them - he sells thousands a week so an up sell from £2.50 to £4.50 each for 2 bearings isn’t going to make any difference to him.

As above, decent bearings are cheap enough so no need to compromise. Do you really want to be doing a bearing swap again in 2-3 weeks/months time?
