Hi folks, I’ve just installed a new out the box Brand x ascent dropper. It’s got quite a lot of rational play, I’ve read somewhere that a little is normal. Maybe I’m noticing it more, as my race face turbine has zero movement. The dropper itself works perfectly, I thought it was the saddle that was rattling, but everything is fully tightened, I even tried a different saddle. I’ve emailed wiggle to ask them but curious to see if anyone has had a similar problem as all the reviews/forums i can find are nothing but complimentary. Below is link to YouTube video of the offending shoogle...

Cheers in advance.

Normal. Or at least I have one like that and have seen similar if not quite so much movement.

Looks how mine has been since new. 12 months on its still fine. Just the way they are. The dropper that came on my Cube has no movement but my brand x has.

Mine was also like that for nearly 3 years, I never noticed it on the bike and it didn't get worse.

I would say that's about the same as my one op.

Don't worry, they really are great bits of kit.👍

Ah cool, well that probably saves the faff of removing and returning it. It’s not my bike atleast so I can stop worrying about it. Thanks folks.

Do you all have a bit of forward and backward play too? I recently fitted a 150mm drop erosion and have noticed the play compared to my other cheap posts. I’ve not ridden the bike yet and was wondering if there is something wrong with the post but it sounds like i’m Safe.

Demonracer, yes I do. However I'm not sure if it was from new and since noticing it, it hasn't deteriorated.

I should say that I don't feel it on the bike,I only noticed it by moving the saddle for and aft with my hands.

Mine had none to begin with at all and has loads now, I wouldn't have another. My one up dropper has been perfect though.

Normal with this type of dropper unfortunately. My Giant Switch dropper (which is more or less identical in design) was the same from new. I don't notice it at all when riding though.

Mine had that when new and now has loads, plus fore/aft play. Out of warranty though, so going to fit the £15 service kit and see if that fixes it.

It's normal as that's play in the keyways but have 3 on my bikes and have fitted several to friends bikes
To eliminate the play you need to have the post fully extended ,unscrew the cap (it's a fine thread so takes some undoing ) slide the cap up and carefully lift the plastic collar up in the slit .
Put a good smere of standec or any suspension grease In there ,slide the plastic sleeve back down ,now put a little more grease under the collar (don't pack it full or you'll not get your post all the way down ) screw back the cap hand tight and you will have very minimal play for around 3 months
Do this it will last you a few years .

Thanks guys. Interesting Big-Bud, will have to give that a try, how tight should the collar be? Mine was easy to undo without even having the post in a frame.

My new one has that and back and forth play when in highest travel mode.

Am I that fussed no as it were at trade price and the PNW lever is fitted to make it more awesomer!

Keep on looking at this thread thinking it's a PSA for wiggle doing cheap dropper posts.

Only needs to be hand tight
Just get a rag round it and do up by hand you won't overtighten it you'll spin the rag round once it's tight enough
I've also got a pnw lever which is great but not quite as great as the wolftooth light action on my other bike

So queried a return with wiggle. They are sending out a replacement, no need to return the current one either. So if it breaks at least I've got a spare, can't argue with that.
