I purchased a Brand X Ascend 120mm Post a few months ago and while it works no problems I'm wondering if these posts require any maintenance (apart from the cable) and are they User Serviceable and if there is any User Manuals on how to do it ?

IIRC same as the Shimano Pro Koryak in terms of maintainance & spares. You Tube for how to service & eBay for a service kit for around £15.

Had my 120 one 2 years on my Aeris and I literally haven’t touched it so far. I haven’t even changed the cable. It works exactly as it did on day 1.

I have two, one being the longer 170mm ascend. That had started to not fully extend but has a valve where you can add air to re-pressurise it which I’ve done and it’s since working brilliantly again. No other maintenance on either.

What sort of mileage is that though ?

I'm doing over 6000km a year so things tend to break

My riding buddy had a sticky 120mm post in his bike, that turned out to be the cable which was easily fixed.

Whilst it was out, we decided to follow servicing instructions and take the post itself apart too. And, since it was so easy, we did the same to my 150mm one.

It was super easy to take it apart for the service, but the most amazing thing was, we really didn't have to do anything at all. After 1.5yrs of very muddy use, the insides were bloody pristine. The grease was still white, they keys looked great.. we just smoothed the grease around a bit and put them back in. Job jobbed.

Its a great post, seems incredibly robust, and not that it really needs it, but very easy to service as well.

Didnt know dropper use was measured in miles. 120mm up + down = 240mm per use.....it would take a lot to reach a mile 🤣

Also had mine for 2 years and never touched it, that said its on my n+1

Sounds good, for what I paid for it (£90) I'll be glad even if I just get 2 years out of it

My 18 month old Brand X XL is wobbling noticeably when riding now, that's approx 4000km of riding.
I don't know whether to try and warranty it with CRC or try replacing the keys myself.

Not the faintest idea how many miles I’ve ridden my bike with the brand x on it - Certainly not 6000kms.

Probably done 2200 miles cycling in the last 2 years but some is commuting on a different bike.Let’s say 1000 miles through all the crap weather on the Aeris.

Regular greasing will make the keyways last longer
Unscrew cap
Carefully prise up the plastic sleeve which has a cut out
Wipe clean
Apply grease then reinsert plastic sleeve
Apply a liberal amount of grease under the seal head I use standec suspension grease
Don't completely pack it as you won't get it too fully drop
Do that every six months and jobs a goodone and there won't be any need to warranty it pushing future retail prices up.

Chuffed with mine so far too! Got the 170mm version on the winter bike and my brother has one too!

Both came with crappy inner (mild steel or galv) and outer cables that didn't last long, changed the cables and faultless.

How much wobble is normal? Mine was lovely and tight when I got it but after one ride moves fore and aft a mm or two and side to side about the same.

A riding buddy had one come on his Vitus complete near 3 years ago never serviced, barely looks after it and runs fine, the black on the stanchion has now worn of the back of the post though...

Sorry to ressurect an old thread but just a question relating to fitting a 120mm Ascend to the current level of Bossnut. I've done my sizing calculations and I'd need to get a 120 stealth fitting. Looking at the cablepath from the grommet near the bottom of the seat tube I can see the cable has to pass a circular piece of tube running horizontaly across the seat tube as part of the rear suspension. Has anyone fitted an Ascend to this version of the Bossnut and is the cable outer small enough to pass between this tube and the seat tube. I'm guessing the cable supplied is the same as a gear cable? I know the obvious answer is to try pushing an old length of gear cable outer down it to see, but sods law I just did a garage clear out and can't find any yet.
The cable would need to pass through without getting compressed. Thanks
