As above really, straight out of the box and just fitted. External 27.2 if it makes a difference. Tested with various different levels of seat clamp tightness. Unlike other droppers I need to use a lot of my body weight to get it to depress, compressing by hand is tricky. The return is very slow, think badly bled reverb if you have one.

Are tight seals etc ab issue when new? I know you cannot play with the pressures but is there anything I can do it other than wait and see if it gets better or send it back?

Are you sure it's not cable related? What's it like off the bike if you manually pull the actuator?

I fitted 2 brand x seatposts a whie ago, one was fine, the other didn’t return properly … it just needed air pressure increasing. Are you sure you can’t play with the air pressure?
A few months down the line the cable was rusted to shit in one bike and that caused exactly what you describe, but unlikely to be that in a new one.

Sounds like the cable isn't tight enough to operate the actuater properly to drop it.

For the return, needs more air pressure. There's a rubber bung under the seat rail clamps with a schrader valve underneath.

I have an Ascend 2 XL (internal though)

As it's external, also check the tension on the cord that goes from the cable entry to the actuator at the base. If it has any slack then nothing will make it speed up until you get the slack out .

Thanks. Cable is tight enough and a light press starts return or depression. Will see if I can find the air valve. Will continue playing to see if I can get it sorted. Same response on or off the bike as far as I can tell.

Ok, unscrew the base cap and get to the cord clamp and pull a bit more through. Well check that manually operating the actuator first by hand (not via cable) gets a good speed, then tighten the cord up.

It's not air pressure as it's slow to drop under weight. It's most likely the actuator not being fully depressed.

No air valve just an Allen key bolt under the saddle. Will check the cord.

This is what i had to do to my 27.2mm external one after a few months of use, been spot on ever since
