I've just fitted a new set of XT M785 brakes and on the front if I pull on the brake and rock the front wheel I can feel some play.

It's definitely not the headset, it feels like the pads are moving a fraction and this equates to a couple of mm movement at the tyre (it's a 29" wheel)

I have ensured that the mounting bolts are fully tightened.

Is this something I should worry about, I can't feel any movement on the back wheel.

I'm using aftermarket pads in my XT's and the back one does move a bit
Check everything is tight, but it possibly is just the pads moving

Cheers, after posting I found this,

Seems like a common issue.

For some reason Shimano make the pads so they have a bit of fore/aft play. Maybe to accommodate heat expansion? Who knows. Anyway it's perfectly normal and you will hear a light clicking on initial application of brakes at first but after a while you won't even notice it.
