My brand new X7 rear mech has a lot of play in the main bolt when tightened up fully (a good 1mm or 2mm horizontal movement, and I can easily move the metal tab bit around).
Am I missing a couple of washers or something that should have been installed when new?

Usually a little side to side play, but only a very small amount.Think you may have the metal tab in the wrong position, it's supposed to be held under tension by the B-tension screw against the lug on the mech hanger.

Thanks. Pretty sure the tab is right - maybe it just seemed especially loose without a chain on to tension it. I've built it up (albeit it doesn't have a gear cable yet) and it doesn't seem to bad, so I'll see how I get on.
