Got guide R on my new santa cruz 5010. have to say they're not as confidence inspiring as the XT M8000 on my other bike.

But haven't had hopes since the mono minis, and so though it a good idea (I think) to ask the STW masses their opinion.

suggestions?

The guide R should provide plenty of power, being a 4 piston brake. I think the Shimano brakes can be more on/off compared to other options which are usually more progressive. So it could be just a matter of getting used to the Sram brakes.

Fwiw I rather like the hope tech 3 e4 brakes. But they don't feel like the shimanos as the Hopes are more progressive. What I also like about the Hopes is the robust/well engineered feel to the levers. The Sram levers I've used worked fine, but they feel like they have more play in the pivots by comparison.

I just got one myself to build up and decided to go with hope e4s (£250 winstanley) , I love the power of XT m8000s far superior to other brakes I've had, slx m675 etc, I also have guide R on my enduro bike I plan to sell, they were really powerful 203/180 rotors but levers failed and they repaired under warranty , but I know what you mean about confidence inspiring 98% superb but now and again oooff

Hence I though get the hopes, if I don't like them sell on at pretty much cost and get some XT

Ps. The Xt m8020 4 piston calipers will be out soon , already on German sites I think ( in effect m8000 levers with a saint calliper

I've got m8000s on my 5010. 203 rotor up front, 180 rotor on the back. Perfect.
