Hi, got a really annoying problem, been riding a 29er Enduro for 3 years ish now running 2 sets of cheap superstar wheels with no problems. However I've just purchased a set of magic crossmax xl wheels and ive had terrible "turkey warble" when braking causing horrendous noise and vibrations through the frame. It was so bad I think it caused the rear hub to fracture and fail. I've had a new set on warranty but these have started to do exactly the same thing. When I put my other wheels on it dissappears completely. I've read about a wayto fix it by taping the rear of the pad so I'll try this tomorrow but has Anybody any ideas how to cure this.
Thanks
FYI, I'm using zee brakes with 203mm rotors f&r.
Are the rotors the same?Ive had a similar problem when the disk braking surface was smaller than the pad surface and the pads were catching on the rotor 'spokes'
Yes that same discs on both wheelset. I put metal tape on the rear of the pads which seems to have made it slightly better but it's still there especially when wet. I took the sintered pads off ages ago cos they were unbearable with the mavics. Now running shimano resin pads. Anybody know if "floating" rotors would help???
Floaters won't help. Ime.
Try a dab of copperslip on the back of the pads after thoroughly cleaning the discs with isopropyl alcohol. Worked for me.
I had a similar problem with a rear Zee brake.Changed from a 203 rotor to a 180 and it cured it.
I believe it's something to do with vibration frequencys.
its one of those things unfortunately?
certain brake systems on certain frames or wheels cause a harmonic resonance
seen this before on a number of Trek and Devinci full suspension bikes, the cure was normally switching to an organic brake pad or different brake system
