So cheap rotors may warp more readily... Do any rotors do a better job of, y'know, braking? Or is it all about staying true and looking cool (and squealing, as some folk claim Hope are prone to do)
Generally, best results probably come from whatever rotors the manufacturer designed the callipers to work with. Lots of brake track contact is going to result in better braking. Lots of things affect squealing but contamination and over-light rotors are on the list ...

Based on what? I've been using cheap generic rotors for years without warping any.

As long as the pads contact the rotor, the brakes will work just fine. I've been mixing and matching brakes and rotors for years, can't tell any difference between them when I'm riding.
Although Magura rotors are a bit thicker than everyone else’s so it’s best to stick with them.
Other than that I’ve never worried about matching manufacturers, just size that’s important. Never really had any issues with noise or vibration apart from some of the old Hope ‘lightning’ rotors.
