Looking for some brakes for an SS build I’ve near completed

3 attempts to buy a set of Shimano M7100 SLX brakes have all ended in disaster for one reason or another

Starting to look for MAYBE something else so looking for suggestions…

I’ve been looking at Shimano, SRAM, Hope minis to name but a few, realistically, I don’t REALLY know what I’m looking at / for, so, suggestions please folks

Ideally…
- Mid-ish range hydraulic (similar level to M7100)
- won’t fall apart, seize up or need MUCH in the way of maintenance after initial set up
- Good for mostly bimbling about on unpaved footpath / gravel / bridleway, few ups and downs in local woods / trails, small XC stuff, nothing too huge or hardcore…

Following a spendy wheel purchase, I could currently squeeze £100 for brakes (bonus points for rotors included) but happy enough to wait a LITTLE longer so I can top the pot up

Suggestions / recommendations / experiences all welcome…whatcha got?!

GO…

It might help if you explained what you mean by this.

This would be an obvious benchmark, try the other online retailers and see if you can find a better deal:

Sram guide re are a powerful brake (same/similar calipers as Code) that are popular and can be had for £76.50 a pair in the flash sale:

Rear can be used as front (lever is same both sides so just flip it depending on side) but obviously hose will need shortening

Code FLASH15 takes those SLX on CRC down to £110.48 for the pair.

I thought Hayes were higher end these days? £100 an end with discount codes but without rotors looks a little out of the OP’s budget.

It might help if you explained what you mean by this.

Attempt 1: Bought a used set that ended up needing repair to a cost more than they were worth, arrived in a condition that was far from what was described

Attempt 2: ordered a set from CRC, one side arrived, order for other side cancelled and refunded due to “stock issues”, the side that arrived sent back and refunded

Attempt 3: ordered front and rear from CRC after checking stock levels via live chat, order was cancelled and refunded, no explanation given

Hopefully you’ll understand why I’m a little wary of ordering from CRC…

I just bought the CRC SLXs (for £102 for the wrong-way-round-levers versions). Came in a bag with inserts and olives for hose shortening.
