Braking power was pretty low to begin with, so I removed the rear pads (Shimano XT sintered) and they looked shiny. I thought I'd give them a rub with some sandpaper which got rid of the surface glaze but now they have no bite whatsoever. Is there a fix or is it a new pair of pads?
i fix this by slopping loads of wet gritty mud over the rotors, then riding down a big hill braking from 25mph down to stop over and over again and getting the brakes really hot.
Dunno why it works but it does. Maybe it roughens up the rotor a bit
Give the rotors a light sand then re bed in. You need to get them really hot
Sounds like possible contamination to me.
wash the pads and rotors in the dish washer.
