I’ve got some M785 XT levers but my left hand one now has an issue with it not returning properly when released. It’s clearly an issue with the lever - the caliper is fine (it was attached to a different lever before).
It looks like the master cylinder does not return to where it should do when released so the lever is ‘floppy’ and the brake remains partially activated.
1) Is this a thing? Or is it something else
2) Is it relatively easily sortable if I get the replacement part or is it new lever time?
Oh it's definitely a thing, i've seen a few go like that. The piston/seal starts to bind up in it's cylinder for some reason. It's a horrible job to strip & re-assemble them from what I remember, and unless you can source spares (genuine parts not available), cleaning & lubing rarely lasts. I'd probably replace it with a Deore, unless you really want all of the pointless adjustments that you'll probably set once, and never touch again.
