So in short ride from Aviemore via Glenmore round Bynack More to the Fords of Avon and Lairig Laoigh to Braemar.
Return via Linn of Dee, White Bridge, Geldie, Glen Feshie and don't forget to ride the bothy trail at grid ref NH 883 056.

Route sorted

Will be a long day!

or would anyone advise a 2 day forray?
or any changes you would make?

i dont think it will be a good day if you try to do it all at once.

we did aviemore, morlich, ryvoan, pools of avon, linn of dee, braemar in a day.
it is a long way

corrour bothy is always an option, but we'd like to make it in one big day.
I think some chaps posted a video on it ?
early start late finish

we stayed in aviemore, the did the route to braemar the next day.
it is a long old route.
the section from near bynack more to linn of dee takes ages.
fair bit of hike a bike.

I had roughly planned to do this circuit in the summer - driving to Braemar and setting up camp then driving around to Aviemore to start the route from there. Two day rides without having to haul overnight gear.

You will be nipple deep in snow if you try that any time soon. Everywhere above a few 100 meters is passable only with skis and a sense of humour after last weeks blizzards.

its about 69km,
should be doable,
the part from glenfeshie isnt too stretching so as long as we can make it to geldie by midday, leaving say 5 or 6 in the morning, we should b back by sunset.
It is a summer route, so should be plenty of light?

Done this loop in a day but anti-clockwise starting and finishing in Aviemore. It's a long day and probably way more than 69km. We disorganisedly started at about 10.30am but got back with light in hand and still time to meet mates in the pub (but were useless for anything remotely approaching conversation...)
Next time I'd do it clockwise - the way you're talking about - you'll get the Lairig an Laoigh hike a bike over with while you're fresh and make the most of the Derry Lodge singletrack and the easier Feshie / Inshriach / Rothiemurchus trails at the end of the day. And you can pootle back along the road from Glen Feshie if you're gubbed.

I have walked/cycled most of that, try and do it after a couple of dry days,it will make a difference, and get the carrying over early, clockwise.

Is there a lot of hikeybikey on the lairig an laoigh then or s it just around bynack mor?

And your probably right about the length, i just quickly popped it on memorymap.

But if its do-able and the weathers nice, we'll try it!
Mid Auust there should be plenty of light. 🙂

I did the same loop in a day a few years back as a longest day ride. Its a big day out, well worth it though, lots of great riding and stunning views. Pretty sure we did over 100k in total.

69 kliks? No way baby...

Not much change out of 60 MILES that one and your arse will be letting you know that by the end of it 😉

Haha ok maybe slight underestimated?
But you think it can be done with an early start, good conditions and a late finish?

For sure.

Only one way to find out if YOU are fit enough though. You can always take a credit card, toothbrush and a change of keks and hit the fleshpots of Braemar 😉

Definitely clockwise btw

Bloody hell, I've only done half that route, but surely the biggest descent of the day is from Bynack Mor down to Ryvoan? I (personally) wouldn't want to climb that for the half rideable descent to Glen Derry.

Remember if you stay in the Bothy it's considered extremely rude to leave anything less than a half bottle of malt and a packet of Haribo's (or equivalent)

Classic choice. Planning to do it clockwise in the Spring and topping out on Bynack Mor summit before the descent to Aviemore. If we are feeling good, the option is to extend it to Ballater / Loch Builg. That would mean a proper Alpine start though. I can see a full sus 29er being the weapon of choice for that!

Big days out in the hills. Love it. Your posts about where to ride have gotten me itching for the snow to disappear.

Cheers

Anti clockwise, very rideable from the shoulder down to the Fords of Avon. Rocky but gravity is on your side. Some folk struggle after the Fords of Avon but I found it all rideable from Glen Derry to the Fords last summer. Teeny short couple of pushes over loose rock just after we left the Hutchie Hut.

Check out issue 63 for the MacDui article. It took in some of what you are planning.

Cheers

Sorry, make that clockwise. Doh!

I meant to say I'm aiming for the anti clockwise option as Feshie into a headwind can be a bugger at the end of a long day. Bynack Mor is mainly descending all the way back to Aviemore.

Here is the video. Slightly different route, we did Braemar - Lairig Ghru - Glen Feshie - Braemar. Long day with lots of carrying but some excellent riding.

Lairig an Laoigh is best enjoyed from the Braemar to Aviemore direction 🙂

Seconds re Messiah comments

I remember thinking on the descent to Aviemore that there would be a lot more pushing than the two relatively short carries we had to do.

Fraser

Top video. I've watched it several times and thoroughly enjoyed it. Any future plans for big rides?

Chapeau!

Everyone says different aha!
I think the Best way is clockwise I.E Aviemore to braemar and then the geldie and then feshie to aviemore.
Fraser that video is brilliant, thats the kind of thing we fancy apart from less pushing, hence the choice of the Lairig An Laoigh.
Haha sanny I really cant wait to and im only coming up for a quick blast!,
and dont worry there'll be a bottle of the Lagavulin left in the bothy for you 😉
Oh and not forgetting the tangfastics.

Wait a minute, you've started five different threads* about this one ride, and now it turns out you've ridden it? 😉

Although a few have also said clockwise!
I think we'll ask the lads at bothy and see what they say!

Well, I'm only going on what advice people have given me on it.
And ive started two threads on it.
Well that is what the forum is for!
What would you say monk, a definate clockwise or anticlockwise?
anticlockwise seems more biking but clockwise seems like it gets the hiking out the way quicker.

Sorry, wasn't having a go, hence my (*) disclaimer 8)

I'd say clockwise, as the descent to ryvoan bothy must be the biggest and most continuous on the loop, and would be a heinous climb. also gives you an easy coast past Loch Morlich and back to Aviemore in the evening sunshine, with La Taverna waiting at the bottom of the road for all-you-can-eat Italian 😀

*MASSIVE EDIT* Of course, I meant anti-clockwise, dammit! i.e starting with Feshie, Geldie, Derry, L.a.L, Ryvoan 😳

I get a bit defensive 😉

As i was reading that i was thinking, hang on either im stupid or he's describing an anticlockwise route here!

Cheers for all your help!

Decision finalised before i changed my mind: One Day-Anticlockwise!

I'm itching to get out on my bike now!
