Ach, the Merlin's brakes have had it. Faffed about with them, but they're older Deore, and I think the seals must be leaking fluid onto the pads. The squealing is horrid.

Anyone used these and know if they're any use?

They're ok and do the job. A step down from the Deore ones so no Servo Wave / Ice Tech pad compatibility but will stop the bike and won't squeal like Avids.

The deore m615 are £35 an end from CRC at the moment. If cash is limited can you get away with upgrading only one end for now?
You could also replace just the caliper, I've have previous generation XT levers on a m615 caliper. The fittings were all the same so it was just case of unscrewing the hose from the old caliper then onto the new. One quick bleed later and they were sorted.
