I'm looking for somewhere to stay close to Bike Park Wales next Monday-
2 people for 1 night, bike storage not needed as going in the van
Some friends recommended the Butchers Arms but sadly they can't accommodate us.

Make sure you lock the bikes up when they are in the van.

Have you looked on AirBnB? Lots of options locally- from cheap dobules in a house to a whole cottage to yourself.

We found most bunk house etc wanted us to fill the whole place and book for 2 nights.

Ended up going for the Castle Hotel. bang in the centre and has secure bike storage. Its not the classiest joint but it works.

No use to you now but when I went we stayed at the Twin Trails B&B. Very impressed, comfortable, bike storage and a great fry up with very helpful owners. What more can you wish for?

We stayed in the premier Inn aberdare. Asia right outside and a pub serving grub. Sorted.

We stayed at the Rhynmey House Hotel. Friendly, good food, good breakfast, bikes locked up inside.

It's a bit grotty looking from the outside (rusty sign, tatty garden, lick of paint wouldn't be wasted) but much nicer inside and it's really quite cheap.

We'd stay again there.

Our diner bed and breakfast worked out at £45 each, sharing twin rooms.

I was chatting to one of the drivers this weekend, he said as far as he knew all the bikes stolen were from off the top of cars while the owners were up at the building. None from outside the cafe...yet.

I reckon all you need is a £5 cable lock for outside the cafe and the thieves will take the Nomad next to yours as it's easy to walk up to a bike like you owned it without notice but harder to hide cutting/breaking a lock in front of everyone.

What, they left their bikes worth probably thousands of pounds ontop of their cars, unattended whilst they went for a coffee?

Whilst I feel sorry for their loss I am equally astounded at their nievity that everyone in BPW is nice and the place isn't a magnet to thieving scum.

The Prince of Wales, no secure lock up, but very bike friendly (if you ask nicely they'll let you keep bikes in the room). Excellent evening meal and breakfast, and a lovely old boy will make you feel very welcome. Definitely stay there again!

Every time someone asks about Wales the subject of bike theft comes up immediately. Is it that bad?

I was thinking of van camping down there when I get a chance. Don't want to have someone rip my door open while I'm tucked up in my sleeping bag. Glad I wasn't sleeping in it at Hamsterley when a brick came through the side window I'd have had heart failure.

Thefts compared to visitor numbers are low, but don't leave bikes or anything else worth thousands of pounds alone on top of or on the back of a car in a carpark in a forest near Bpw or anywhere else. Bpw have a few recommended accomadion on their website with storage & bike wash facilities.
