You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So, just got new bike with boxxer rcs, just wondering if any other boxxer owneres can shed a bit of light on a couple of things? Firstly ive changed the spring to a yellow one which should be correct for my weight but im only getting 15% sag with it. Ive only taken the bike out for a couple of hours so far so is it just a case of the forks taking a bit of time to bed in? Also when i changed the spring i could only find a manual for a 2011 boxxer which mentioned preload spacers but when i took the red spring out there was no preload spacers in the forks. Should there be or do the 2015 boxxers not use them? Cheers in advance!
I've got 2015 RCs, they definitely use preload spacers. If you're not getting the right sag with none in, then you need to drop another spring weight. If yellow is the medium then I think I've got a spare of the one below it that I could maybe sell you
The red which was in it was a medium, and ive replaced it with the yellow (140-160lbs). How many preload spacers were in your boxxers? Im right in assuming the should just be sat on top of the spring?
So a yellow is firm? Did you try it with the red first?
Think I had 3 or 4 in them, came on the front of a bike from Canyon
Yellow 63-72 kg
Red 72-81 kg
Blue 81-90 kg
They do tend to settle after a few rides. I usually dial in the std settings and ride around for a while before tweaking
My 2014 RCs had spacers but not used them, I bought a firm spring due to my weight on the spring charts but I got about 10% sag and no where near full travel, so put the normal one back in, sags about right and only get full travel on big wrong landings. I also removed the bottom out bumper which mine came with, its just a length of elastomer.
I thought it could be tight bushings but I've had mine over a year now, changed the fluids regularly and its not loosened up a great deal.
I've recently removed the original wipers & oil seal and put in Push wipers & foam rings, it does seem to have helped, worth doing for £20odd.
There no getting away from RC's having a budget damper, I'd love to throw some cash at a Charger damper.
Thanks Rocketman.
OP, you're in the same boat as me, I was towards the lower end of yellow/soft, ended up having to go for silver/x-soft

Yeah it's not exactly a sophisticated bit of kit, think I might be about to land an Avalanche damper for mine
My mistake there was a preload spacer, it was attached to the bottom of the top cap. Think ill just get a few days use out of them and hopefully they will soften up a bit. Really shouldnt need the extra soft spring!
You might want to check the oil levels in the legs & damper aswell.
Wouldn't bet on it softening up enough, even with the x-soft mine has barely changed so far
Possibly too much oil somewhere preventing movement? Charger damper and push low friction seals will be on the shopping list at some point!
If there was enough oil to stop it sagging the instant-fountain would be spectular after a proper hit 🙂
Ride them and let them bed in first, spring rates are a bit on the firm side for those.
Damping is pretty basic so more than a few clicks on the compression will feel quite nasty sometimes.
Charger damper a good upgrade, better lower leg oil & SKF seals are a worthwhile upgrade come service time.
SKF seals as opposed to the push low friction one? Is the charger damper easy to install? How much do you charge to install them LoCo? Just noticed your not too far away from me
Just started fitting the SKF seals, supplied direct from SKF not Fox/SKF.
Drop us a mail regarding supply and fitting of the charger, we'd look at the entire fork when fitting any damper upgrades.
