Someone did mention it, cheaper but far from cheap and even heavier than Onyx. I do like the idea but not enough to buy
Looks good.
$110 less than the Onyx Vesper, but still expensive and heavy. Always liked the silent rolling from my old Alfine, which somehow has gears but is cheaper.
I hadn't realised about the spongy engagement of the Onyx before seeing that video. Wonder if that's annoying in use.
If I were spending $350 on a rear hub, the extra $50 or so for onyx (which I've been very tempted by in the past) wouldn't seem much.
Also $150 for the front?!?!
I've got the onyx Vesper. It's a great hub most of the time. The "sponge" isn't noticeable, it's more of a very slight sift start. What I do notice is the clang of engagement when I get back in my Hope hubs.
The only down side is how easily the cassette and axle drop off when the wheel isn't in the bike.
Want to swap freehubs? It will cost twice what anyone elses does despite being no more complex, In fact, less so.
Price is just silly. When I got mine, I'm pretty sure I got the pair for what the rear goes for now. The front hub, how can a sell and two bearings cost so much? Matchy matchy is expensive.
However, when riding, the silence and free spinning nature is great.
The fact that someone else is there to offer an alternative is great news.
Someone did mention them, no one heard tho.
I always min max my hubs on wheel builds.
Hydra out back and Cheapest up front. You can get a SuperStar V3 front hub for £35 with torque caps.
Someone did mention them, no one heard tho
