Interesting concept.
I was playing with the numbers the other day and reckoned there's a gap in the market for a 10-38 ish 11s cassette along similar lines (xx1 eagle weight, gx price and construction). Caveat that ive not spent much time on an eagle drivechain but i really dont see the added value in a 50t sprocket or being able to pedal past a 90" top gear. Sunrace mx8 is pretty much there in the smaller variations if they made an xd version.
My only reservation would be chain life, shimano made some big claims about 10s durability when they brought chains in house with a new production line/process. Which seem to have borne out in reality. Not sure I'd want to go back to 9s chain.
I think I could be quite tempted to try that why my XT 11speed wears out. Down't want to lose my XTR shifter though 🙁
Love that its all steel but don't need 50 teeth. 44 would be ideal. Also not sure how having less gears improves chainline? Surely the extremes will still be the same. just bigger jumps between gears. But yeah - all steel is great - Never understood why SRAM make 10 steel cogs and the one you use the most is aluminium - Why! Who is caring about 20 extra grams when you loose 2/3rds of the lifespan of a cassette! Its almost like they want it to wear out so we have to buy another one!
It improves chain line as the bigger cogs don't need to be dished so far inboard.
Could be a good option for e-bikes. The steel cassette and (presumably) thicker strong chain would help with the extra load and reduce wear and the gaps between gears would be less noticeable with the assistance....
