Can anyone here give me some local knowledge on these two areas? Rode through them today on the way to Peaslake and they looked like fantastic training playgrounds. On Headley we rode what I shall call 'The Big Dipper' for now; a shingly plummet and 25% climb each direction. On Box we followed a fairly uninspiring fireroad that brought us out near the base of the road climb. There looked to be a wicked ridgeline trail just across the valley.

Long time since I've off roaded on box hill but there are some good trails. Muddy Moles used to be the local club, I think there are a couple on here (tonyg2003 and mtb-idle maybe)

Yep, the Muddy Moles crew know the area inside out and are a very decent bunch.

As for trails, there are several in let’s say a 2 mile radius of Box Hill but they’re all unofficial and rather cheeky, hence I’ll not post more info here.  Let’s just say that most of them make use of the contours!

Hi. Moles still ride box hill and Hedley. Lots of good but....ahem cheeky ... trails off Hedley and Box, although the best trails in the area are now off Mickleham gallops. Drop the MuddyMoles a line and we’ll see if we can organise  ride to show you

Headley Heath and Box Hill have some good terrain,  and a few cheeky trails, but my opinion is that it is best to just take a direct-ish route across them to get elsewhere .

They both tend to be the first destination out of town for Londoners and Epsom dog walkers, plus lots of horses nearby, so people everywhere who are not used to seeing bikers away from the roads.

Headley and Box also each have a resident ranger so any significant building or traffic soon gets noticed and trails closed down.

Better to focus your ride where there are fewer potential conflict points.

Tony and peekay have got it to be honest. I don't ride on headley other than the 'proper' routes through as it's just one of those areas that has the potential to rub too many people up the wrong way.

Plenty nearby though. I ride with Redhill cc which gives you another option to the moles if you want to see some more of the area (i make it out with the moles occasionally too but not as much as I'd like!)
