Might be down in Bovey Tracey in a few weeks for a week and considering bringing the cx bikes down. Much good that’s cx’able in the area? Staying in Bovey itself

You will be heading for Dartmoor then?

Probably, never cycled off road down there, just a bit on road up Haytor way. Sister in law lives there and haven’t been down with a bike for many years.

A few green lanes etc but most stuff is pretty rocky, steep and technical.

Some of the lanes are CX friendly...

In fact I think the hell of the west route started in Bovey or near.

Ride up the hill to the reservoirs, follow your nose, various stuff to ride.
Alternatively, Steps Bridge to Fingle Bridge (about ten miles away from Bovey) and back is mainly fire road and very pleasant ride along the river.
Newly opened part off part on road cycle path just opened between Bovey and Mortenhampstead.
Plenty of other places if you have a bit of an explore.

If you're heading to Bovey Tracey there is loads of good mtbing up on Dartmoor so rather going for the no morning compensation option CX why not just go ride MTB?

From Bovey? On a CX bike and not some huge gnarr to the Max downhill behemoth?

I'd probably jump on my bike and ride up the hill to Haldon.

(From Bovey - Head towards Chudleigh Knighton. Then past Finn Lake. Through Chudleigh. Turn left at Chudleigh War Memorial and follow old road UP HILL to Haldon.)

Loads to do when you get to top.

You'll defo earn your cake on your return. I would recommend "Cafe 3 Sixty" in Bovey for good cake and coffee.

Have fun.

Road riding on roads with the Sister in law has been mentioned so the dual aspect of a cx bike would be more useful and I like my cx bikes more than my mtb 😉

Thanks for all the replies, appreciated.

Iwan Thomas. I worked with him over 2 days filming for the One Show. He is funny as **** and fascinated by normal people. Really good sense of humour and no graces at all.

That’s nice, but what we really want to know is his opinion on the best routes out of bovey?
