Selling a frame and wanted to remove BB to transfer to new frame but have lost that plastic shimano adapter thing that fits the Park Tool BB remover. I then decide that I will just buy a new one for the new bike but got to thinking about maybe a red one to match the other accents on the bike. Needless to say Shimano only come in boring colours so am looking at Token, RaceFace, Uber etc, and vaguely considering Hope but it's a bit rich for me.
So there is the story (I probably could have avoided that and just asked the question) are they all the same size as the new Shimano smaller diameter or do they all need individual tools to fit and remove?
Ta.
Bump - Anyone?
Hope are the original Shimano HT2 size so you don't need an adaptor - just fitted one to my wife's bike. That's for 24mm spindle, might be different for 30mm spindled cranks.
Note that there are two different adaptors for Shimano: one for XT and another for XTR which is a bit smaller external diameter.
Personally I wouldn't touch Raceface BBs, I had one on the Solaris when I got it - lasted about 1000km, replaced with a Hope which has lasted 15,000km so far.
I think every other brand are still using the older bb tool size. I'm running an orange uberbike one, it's been perfect for about 6 months in, so far, so good, before that I had the gold shimano saint bb which I left in my old frame when I sold it.
Thanks both. Uberbike are out of stock unfortunately, might have to splash out on Hope if it doesn't need a new tool
Just checked - the Hope BB for 30mm needs its own spanner - there was even an STW thread on it: https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/what-tool-for-a-30mm-hope-threaded-bb/
Ended up with Nukeproof Horizon which has a 2yr money back guarantee and fits the old Shimano tool. so fingers crossed. The Token BB I was looking at needed a special tool which was around £30 ffs!
