Went out for a VERY wet and muddy one on Monday...

Bike was cleaned and put away in the exact same way it always has been. However went to fit my Superstar Chainguide today and my cranks don't spin... well they do... but it's not a proper spinning movement that i'd expect.
Removed the cranks, basically both sides of the BB barely move !!!!

Removed the BB to make sure nothing is i dunno, binding, but once out, exactly the same. Bike has been quiet as a mouse, no issues with BB etc.

Am i missing something here ?

BB is a bog standard cheapo generic Shimano item.

you could probably regrease bearings and get them moving.. but in this weather, you want a stainless bb really.

stainless is no good if water and grit get in though

Pop outer bearing seals off, soak / flush with WD40 keep trying to turn bearings until they start moving then work them some more. Once you get full revolutions without being too gritty try and get as much WD40 out and then force some grease back in there (grease gun helps a lot) turn the bearings in and add further grease occasionally. Pop bearing covers back on and you should be good to go.
Did this 18months ago and my cheapo rebuilt BB is still going strong and spins very freely (with little resistance either I might add).
