went to fit a bottle cage to my fatbike today. tried to undo allen bolt, and it started spinning, and not undoing, then noticed the mount was spinning in the frame. it is not a brazed on type, looks more like a alloy insert that sits flush with frame.  tried to grip allen bolt with molgrips, no success.
ideas greatly welcomed
can you get some locktight in between the insert and the frame (while avoiding getting it in the bolt)? Otherwise if the insert has a small lip above the frame you can sometimes jam a small screwdriver in there or wind thread round it to try and jam the insert a little.Â
Try pulling on it (wedge something between it and frame) and undoing at the same time.
The steel bolt will probably have corroded to the ally insert.
The mount will likely be a Rivnut. Perfect excuse to buy a Rivnut gun. Cheap and surprisingly useful!
cheers gents, i shall try the locktight first as i have some. and then we will see.
Get an M5 screw, nut and washer and use them to pull on the rivnut to squish it more into the hole, unless you have a rivnut tool...
Google it up there's bount to be a tutorial or two on YouTube.
i think the problem is that he can't get the existing bolt out to put a new one in to pull the rivnut. Once that is out then your process should work
Any/all of the above + some penetrating oil. Hot glue may be an option although I haven't tried it
Standard QR skewer is M5 and can be used to tighten a rivnut with a length of tube for the cam to push against
This technique worked for me:
