Looking for some advice on what bottle cages work on a RocketMAX in medium. Thought I’d try transferring a Specialized one over from another bike of mine but no way it would fit above the shock so don’t want to be buying ones on trial and error.

Demoed a FlareMax at ArdRock and took note as the blue matched really well. Sure it was a side loading Lezyne Flow cage.

Actually probably not any help!

If it's anything like my medium Flare, there just isn't room for a bottle. Not sure what Cotic were thinking but the bottle bosses on mine are purely cosmetic.

I'm thinking of using something like this to attach a bottle under the downtube:

I was thinking a side loading cage would be the way to go, but that’s what the Specialized one is and it’s nowhere to being even close to fitting...!

My medium rocket (previous geo) just doesn't have room.. if I'm desperate I use one of the Fabric bottles that doesn't need a cage but I need some gorilla tape on the it as well as the cane creek shock to prevent wear marks

As above, the bosses on my medium Flare are in the wrong place, and the bottle rubbed the shock and some of the paint off the frame in one ride. I've currently got an SKS anywhere mount with the bottle on the top tube, and another one under the downtube if required.

FWIW I have one of the Lezyne Flow sideload cages and it just doesn't hold the bottle very securely. It's disappointing because the regular Lezyne Flow is great, really rock solid grip.

You need the Zippomattic 3000.

Plastic chopping board for £3 in Tesco. Covered with a binder cover , cable tied to your frame and 2 bottle mounts fitted.

Easy way to carry 2 litres of water and dead easy to reach. It works,

Fidlock Bottle Twist/SKS Monkey Bottle? Haven't used any of them and the bottles are proprietary, but they look like a solution.

Not much use to you but I've got a cheapo alloy one on my medium 2012 Rocket and it takes a small bottle with another in my bumbag.

Or there's a King Cage for the stem

Second comments of joemmo. The flow side loading cage is not suitable not suitable for a bike ridden off road, which I have discovered to my cost.

Email Cotic, they will help. I think Kelvin has previously said that he uses a Specialized side load cage, mounted upside down.

Would something like the YT Jeffsy thirstmaster work?

I had a previous shape medium 650B Rocket with an X Fusion shock and the only way I could get a cage + bottle in there was to bolt the bottom cage hole to the top frame hole, then tape the top of the cage mount to the top tube. If I tried to use the frame mounts as they were the linkage hit the cage and knocked the bottle out. It was a bit pants. Small Flare had the cage mounts under the downtube, WTaF?

Probably not much help, but the mounts have been moved forwards on the newer (LongShot) bikes, which I guess is a recognition that the previous position didn't work that well.

I used a youth/childs smaller bottle/cage when I had this issue on a previous bike. Still use it on my spacious Solaris Max now.....as well as a  runners hip flask bum bag for longer rides. search: Elite Corsetta Youth Bottle

I do use the Speccy SWAT side loading cage… it's ace… but that is on a Large frame. I've not mounted a bottle on a medium myself; it looks tight on that size, for sure.
