Morning all.
I took my bike for a ride round "Follow the dog" yesterday at Cannock.
Halfway round my rear hanger snapped. So I broke the chain removed the derailleur
and made my bike in to a single gear so I could limp home.
When back at the house I removed the rear wheel, the chain and the broken rear hanger.
When I put the wheel back on, and tightened the Quick Release enough so the wheel stays in I can no longer freewheel the bike backwards, forwards is OK jut not backwards.
Any Ideas, on what I need to look at? Fix or replace etc?
Thanks in advance.
Have you aligned the mech hanger?
I'm assuming you can't back pedal basically?
Looking at a picture of the hanger, it looks like it forms the inner face of the dropout?
Fitting the wheel without the hanger means that (a) you've had to flex the stays inwards when you clamped the wheel and (b) probably something on the frame is now fouling the hub or cassette.
I wonder if you're clamping against the cassette lockring or fouling the 11T ring, which would explain why you can roll the bike forwards (freewheel allows cassette to stay still) but not backwards (cassette would then have to rotate).
Anyway... you need a new hanger installed and hopefully it should be okay.
I'd also take the wheel out of the frame and see if it does the same thing when free.

I'm at work so cant check but when I read this, I was like doh, of course.
Thank you very much.
