I need a new Gen4 motor for my e-bike (purchased second hand) and have found one in Germany however the retailer states that the motor needs a software configuration for it to be used once installed?
What exactly does this mean and I presume it means a trip to a dealer to do this, if so do you have any idea on cost?
Is your current motor irreparable?
No the quote for a repair came back over £400, I can get a new motor for not much more with a Bosch warranty so I would prefer to do that.
Before you buy it, it might be worth asking a local dealer if they can do it first. There are quite a few restrictions on the Bosch dealer software.
I know nothing about this, other than I've got a Bosch powered bike. I would guess it's something to do with setting wheel size and speed limit based on country of use.
Can’t help with your question, sorry.
As someone who recently bought a second hand Bosch powered ebike, I’m super interested @pc2017 as to where you can get a new Bosch motor for £400 or so !
Hope you get it sorted, you might get more replies on the EMtb forum
I can help here.
The motors are configured using the bike manufacturers software settings, regional settings etc etc... They are called container files.
So in this instance say you got the motor, you would then have to get it configured by your bikes manufacturer. Eg Trek, Haibike etc
Your LBS can't do this themselves but the manufacturer can connect up to their software to do it remotely..
Getting them to do this will be another matter though unless you get the motor through the them I think.
I think an email to the UK distributor or HQ of your bikes manufacturer will be the first port of call to see if they can do this for you.
If you do end up having to going the repair route, the guys at eBike Motor Centre were absolutely spot on when I used them a few weeks ago. Really professional, great communications, super helpful. I sent the motor off to them on a Tuesday, they got it on Wednesday, e-mailed me the invoice on Friday morning and dispatched the overhauled motor to me same day. Got it back on the Monday. Motor - a Brose - feels like new and has been upgraded with actual seals, uprated sprag bearing etc. Recommended.
