I'm trying to sign up but the website is super slow and keeps throwing me out.
Does this mean lots of other people are doing the trying to do the same.
yes despite all the press, people have probably only just twigged that for the time being you need to register to use them and not to just use causally..
apparently not many reg spaces left + you need to wait for you key to arrive and activate it
They're getting some use! Brilliant seeing them over Waterloo Bridge this morning. 🙂
thats great news, except they did similar in cambridge years back and all the bikes got nicked.
11,000 people signed up according to R4 this morning. Theres only predicted to be 6000 bikes when they're all setup.
im pretty sure that not all 11000 people will want to be using them at the same time though,
24kg is a lot of bike - good job London's flat 😉
'Boris bikes' Boris will be laughing all the way to the election with his name associated big time with a project initiated by someone else.
Its interesting to see how so many papers and web sites are speculating on the increase of bike hire schemes in the UK, citing loads of cities, yet they are all carefully ignoring how the Bristol [Cycling City remember !] Hourbike scheme flushed down the pan sometime round last May. Almost a conspiracy of silence on that one - even people who cycle and live in Bristol don't seem to realise it went bust.
I find it puzzling how it seems to have so successfully have been kept quiet.
Anyone ridden a Boris Bike yet? I signed up last week and I'm just waiting for my magic key to turn up.
What size drop do you think one could take? 🙂
They're really, really pleasing to ride.
Only difficulties I've had so far are 1 bike with the brakes dragging rather, and a couple of slight hassles returning them in unfamiliar places.
Please don't smash them up. Such a waste. 🙂

You wouldn't want to try getting one up Swains Lane, trust me...
Oh BigDummy, I wouldn't really think about hurting one. I'm looking forward to making them part of my daily routine. I commute in through Paddington so these bikes could be very handy.
Tails -the Cambridge scheme was totally different. They gathered up lots of old bikes, painted the green and left them at points around town. The idea being you took it from bike point A and rode it to bike point B and left it on the special stand for the next person. No registration no locks nothing, needless to say a quick trip to the bike shop for your own lock and a can of black spray paint and you have a free bike. Cambridge City council are idiots, the green bike scheme is just one of the many occasions that highlights this. Cambridge could be the Portland (Oregon) of the UK, but the council just cannot get it together when it comes to bikes.
