@Omas theoretical or actual measured weight? As that's bloody light for an alloy rear wheel with XT level components

Mine (weighed) is 2310g and is as follows:

Hunt Proven XC Carbon 29er c/w Hunt tubeless valve

Specialized Renegade T5 29x2.35"

Effetto Mariposa Tyre Invader insert & 100mm of Stans sealant

Shimano XTR RTM9000 Ice Tech 160mm centre-lock rotor

Shimano XTR M9100 10-51 cassette

29” DT Swiss XMC 1200 (180 hub, Berd spokes, 30mm ‘all mountain’ carbon rim) 750g - actual, inc valves & tape

Rest are weights from the internet

XG1299 cassette - 350g

Intend Aero 200mm 2.25 rotor 197g

2.4 DHR 2 EXO- 990g

Guess 100g of sealant

So, provisionally, 2,387g will confirm if I remember when I get home.

And some others

The one currently on my bike is 2920grams.

Hope Pro5 with microspline freehub, Xynotal DH super soft 2.4” tyre, ACI double butted spikes (32), DT Swiss EX511, Stans sealant.

I think that was without the cassette on.

I'm a bit surprised by some of the weights here.

Mine's at 2320g on the kitchen scales. Carbon rim, Hope Pro 4, Ground Control, XTR cassette.

with mine the tyre alone weighs 1320g that’s on the wheel……

Forgot to mention mine has a 200mm centreline rotor on it as well.

Hope hub gives away quite a bit to a light hub.

I dunno what the others think, but that's kind-of cheating IMO.

And you ain't gonna get very far are you? 😉

Yeah. I'm aware I could have built lighter (30mm internal width rims add a fair bit too), I'm just surprised that people are in the same ballpark weight with alloy rims/inserts.

Yours should be lighter than mine eh, unless that carbon rim is particularly overbuilt?

But mine is also real-world weight on the kitchen scales.

IIRC my rear wheel on the Wazoo fatbike, complete with rotor; cassette; tube; 4" Jumbo Jim (without skewer?) was something daft like 4Kg. 😮

For my 2920g wheel add 529g for an slx 10-51 cassette - so 3449g

Mines about as light as you can build an alloy rimmed wheel with a sensible width (25mm) and normal spoke count (28). The 240 it's laced too is from the spline one series wheels and weighs the same as a 180. Carbon rim could drop maybe 100g.

Right, in the garage, the above DT wheel is actually 2,520g. Must have some heavy air in it.

Other wheels -

27.5 Reserve 30, Chris King hub, DB spokes, single Dward Design ti 30t sprocket and SS Spacers, Hope 200mm vented rotor, 2.4 DHRII EXO, valves & sealant -2,400g

29” WTB CZRi30, DB spokes, KOM hub and 200mm rotor, XG1295 cassette, 2.6 DHRII EXO tanwalls, valves and sealant, 2,780g.

27.5 Enve AM, Chris king hub, DB spokes, Intend Aero 200mm rotor, XG1299 cassette, 2.3 Minion SS, valves and sealant - 2,450g

Didn’t expect the reserve to be the lightest, though smaller diameter and no 12s cassette probably helps….

The 27.5 rear wheel (ex) on my ebike, heavy duty Lapierre job with 2.8 Minion, Rimpact Pro and Steps 11 speed cassette = 3650g. Turns out it wasn’t heavy duty really as a bit of a case on a biggish jump and it shuffled off this cruel world. I meant to measure all my wheels including its Hunt replacement at the weekend, but forgot. I will weigh them this week at some point 🙂

26" Arch with a Racing Ralph and 32 spokes weighs in at 1800g. I guess that illustrates quite well why 29ers are so sodding heavy.

I thought this would be pretty damn light - 29er hardtail's wheel is a Crossmax, with 180mm rotor, Bontrager SE5 and XO cassette

2617g if you can't see it. Ebikes beefy DT Swiss is 2900g

FR541 on Yama hub with 12s SLX cassette, rotor and a DHR2 max terra 3c tyre comes in at 3kg.

Tempted to go and weigh the Reynolds X01 set up for comparison now...though that has a cushcore.

OP here. Really interesting data. I didn't think my rear wheel was that light, but clearly it is, at least for a 29 alloy trail wheel and in relative terms. Over the years I had stopped worrying about the weight of my bike as I don't think it matters that much. But t it has become a slippery slope, where does it end? So on my last build I tried to experiment again and build lighter, and it DOES make a difference, particularly when climbing. I couldn't go too light as I am 85kgs but I think those Roval Control at £333 were a bargain on DT350 and at 1,700g. They kind of make carbon redundant at my body weight, although there may be other benefits which I don't grasp (better/sharper steering?). I am not even sure being 27mm is an issue with a 2.4 nor that it inherently makes the rim lighter? (not sure).

Or I am just getting old, at 56 so perhaps I am offsetting for my fitness getting worse.

Your main weight savings are coming from the tyre. I knew the Wolfpack’s were all pretty light, but around/sub 700g for a 29x2.4 tyre is really light, almost half what some are using here.

True, that's why I chose them. Despite the name, the Cross is a solid trail performer. Not sure how it gets so much grip, resilience with so little weight!

Shimano XTR RTM9000 Ice Tech 160mm centre-lock rotor

Shimano XTR M9100 10-51 cassette

Apologies - everything was measured apart from the tyre&sealant which is porkier than expected (tried to work that out via subtraction based on previous wheel weight).

Measured weight is 2374g, with a bit of dirt. 😇

Easy - as I have a rohloff.

Halo rim. wtb nano 2.1 tyre tyre set up tubeless,  rohloff with strengthening rings, 32 spoke, hope 160mm disc 3.5 kg

I have to say I am pleasantly surprised with that in comparison to other weights here considering a fair comparison would include a mech as well
