Perhaps a silly question. I appreciate Boost would give 5mm extra clearance either side of my 2.8 NN (which is a bit marginal in my non-boost Yari) but does Boost also add vertical clearance on top of the tyre (which is even more marginal, if not critical) ?

If would defeat the object if it didn't. Does anyone know ?

In a fork- not a given. My boosted fork did have more clearance all round than the non-boost it replaced but that may equally have been a model change. X fusion forks (pre boost) used to have a lot more clearance than rockshox, for example.

I think If you want to fit 27.5+ tyres, a 29 boost fork is what most mfrs fit.

Boost may give more clearance but its not a function of it being a boost fork. More clearance is purely a design and build thing that because of the timing of the uptake in bigger tyres being similar to the release of boost, boost has been equated to the increase in clearance.

You'll need to physically check the fork in question to see.

Judging from the clearance under the brace on a boost Yari with a 2.5 I'd say you'd be better off with a 29er fork.

Thanks. Is the 29 fork also going to have axle to crown significantly longer than a 27.5 fork ?

2018 on Rockshox forks have more clearance than earlier, not rated to a 2.8 by SRAM but if you can get it in a Mon boost Yari it will have no issues in an 18 on model.

Thanks all. I'll stick to the non boost Yari for now as mud should be less of an issue. I'll revisit in winter or switch to a 2.6 Hans Dampf perhaps ?

Me again. If I buy a 150mm 29 Fox 36 at around £400 on CRC it would seem that the axle to crown only grows by 5mm as the travel goes down by 10mm. 552mm for current 27.5 160mm Yari vs 557 for Boost Fox 36. Is this going to give me the added clearance longitudinally ?
Also I don't know what the offset is for the Fox nor understand the implications of changing the offset. My Yari is 42mm I think.

Thanks. In the end I found a recent 29 Yari non boost on eBay for a good price. It's fitted with a 170mm Debonair spring but also cones with a 150 and a 160mm spare springs! My bike is currently on 66deg head angle with the 2.8 tyre (2.35 at the back) and the 160mm 27.5 Yari. I now have a choice of travels but also will be increasing offset from 42mm to 51mm. I am not bothered about bar height as I currently have 10mm headroom with a spacer under the stem. The logical choice would be to fit the 150mm air spring which will almost compensate for the 29's added AtoC of 19mm. So same bar height by removing spacer and down to 65.5 static HA. How does that work with the different offset though ? Worth trying the 170mm already fitted for a laugh ? (the rear is 140mmm). That would return a 64.5 deg HA with 51mm offset... Bike is a 17 Mondy Foxy Carbon

This was the correct answer. A 2018 Yari in 27.5 offers 10mm more clearance than a 2017 Yari in 27.5 so now plenty of longitudinal clearance. Thx !
