My new frame is boost. Do I need boost cranks or will my XTR m980's be ok set up single ring?

Ta

Depends if you can achieve the correct chain line

It's not about chain line. If you have tyre clearance and frame clearance, then your existing chainset will do and actually gives a better chain line.

Try it. Might depend on your desired tyre width though.

As above, if it clears the frame & tyre go for it.

I've run my boost frame with single ring XT cranks and the ring was very close indeed to the chainstay, boost made it better

Ok thanks guys. I'll try the cranks I have to see if I can make them work.

Frame hasn't arrived yet but hopefully these will do.

Can only speak of Santa Cruz, as it's the only boost bike I've bought, none of them come with boost cranks.

On my boost frame, I have to run boost cranks (ring actually) with a 32t oval. With a 30t round, I ran a conventional set up.

32t single ring on m980 cranks in a boost frame here with no problems. As others have said it will depend on your frame.

Doesn't it depend on the BB shell diameter? My boost frame runs standard 73mm but thought a boost BB was nearer 80mm?

Nope. The BB/shell doesn't change for Boost.

You learn something new everyday. So I guess the big lad is for fat bikes?

Either way my boost frame has a standard chainset as far as I can tell.
