Need some help, considering the above but unsure which to get. Good volume and grippy for hard to loose conditions. Which would you go for, I'm a bobby nics user and a mortgage is needed these days to buy! Thanks in advance. Ps the new XR4 thread btw.

Xr4s are a good big volume tyre, and tougher than Nics. Good on rocks in my experience but don't like to turn mic in the mud. Might just be rubbish riding though.

Thanks chaps! I think the xr4 is an alrounder! The xr2 a bit more for wet loomey conditions?

I like the old XR4. Sticky mud is problematic because it's so big even in a 2.2 but otherwise is great in dry, loose, wet, rocky, etc conditions. Rolls much faster than it looks front-way round (I have both tyres this way). Sadly the thick mud in the woods this winter defeated them and Swampthings have gone on. Next year I might run the old XR4s on the back and something yet more knobbly on the front (Butcher Control 2.3, Minion DHF 2.35 or 2.5, Baron 2.3).

XR2 looks made for going fast in straight-ish lines in the dry. Curious to see how the new XR4 performs.
