Suppose I'd better ride a bike!

Yep. In with @el_boufador up there. Son#2 came with us last year, next year, son#1 will also be in. He's not going to get much steep techy practice in living in Central London, riding just a SS ratbike ... Will be a bit of a baptism of fire for him!

Yep, 4-5 of us going that I know of so far. Always a good do, even the year where it pissed it down!

Think there are four of us so far. A bit down on previous groups but still good for a laugh.

Determined to actually ride it this year following two fails 2021 and 2022, which means [a] not getting ill that week and [b] making sure everything on the bike works properly, especially the brakes...

Me and 3 mates here. For 2 it's their first enduro as the 2 of us who did it last year really enjoyed it and encouraged them to come. I need to get comfortable at jumping as avoiding them in the fields wastes a lot of time.

Until it isn't. Think it was practice 2 years ago where it was shut down for ages as someone landed VERY badly off that.

Thread resurrection  ...

Start times went live half an hour ago. 10 days to the event. Looking forward to it, and hoping it stays dry!

I’m shit at jumping and hate it but me and my even more pedestrian mate ride that stage three ramp no problem - rolling speed plus neutral centre of gravity.

I notice there is a bike wash this year. Still no showers.

I understand there is a lake/river nearby. Does anybody know where that is situated?

Gone for a 9.30 start time, also hoping for some lovely weather as it could be my unfittest boltby to date so need all the help I can get. Just waiting on a new BB to arrive and I'm good to go!

Not racing but rode some off-piste in Boltby Forest at the weekend and it was in prime condition in some places and like a river in others. Enjoy!

Forgot about booking the times so ended up with 10.50 start.   Bit later than I'd wanted tbh but hey ho.  I actually started training for this back in February, but a couple of bouts of a Covid type lurgy recently have put be back to square one.  Unfit, knees & back are fudged but it'll still be a giggle I'm sure!  Looking forward to it!!

@DaveyBoyWonder - is the boltby forest off piste any good? I've had my eye on it for a bit but I've never made the trip...many other places close by that I know are excellent always take me away from trying it out!

Only rode one trail (was exposed so guess it'll have dried quicker than the stuff in the trees) but it was excellent. I know theres a fair bit in there and rode past the entrance/exits of quite a few trails so will definitely be heading back in the next few weeks if it stays dry for a better explore. I'll PM you if I think its worth a trip but Strava heatmap looks promising..

I too forgot to book my time so got 11:50 which I'm going to try and change. I remember last year one of the organisers going round the campsite at about 10:00 saying if anyone wanted to start early they could. 3rd year for me and not on a hardtail after getting a good deal on a second hand evil offering frame.

That Gormire Lake looks good but as a non swimmer - scary. I'll have to get myself bike washed instead.

10 am start for me. Give you slower guys a head start 😜

@mandog - if they're using the usual camp site theres a stream that runs through the fields although not sure how clean it is 🙂

I heard the bottom camping field is very boggy at the moment and might not be usable, still over a week for it to dry out I suppose.

It's getting real now. Pray for grip, warmth, and dry weather.

Heavy rain tomorrow, showers Thurs. Think the sections out in the open will be dry but under the trees it's going to wet still.

Hey, for anyone onsite already, what's the bottom field (over the stream) looking like for bogginess? We arrived tomorrow morning and usually camp over that side as there is more space over there for latecomers

The weather couldn't look better. I'm off to find some sunscreen - which wasn't what I was expecting.

Yeah it was great - the weather was perfect and it was running prime today. I was a bit worried yesterday at practice in stage 2 - v greasy, I rode it really badly. Today I rode it so much better!

Despite crashing on stage 5 (no harm done) and losing about 15 seconds, I did pretty well and I'm well happy with my results

166 / 1100 overall - top 16%

35 / 310 vets under 50 - top 12%

Best result was 20th on stage 1 my age category, 21st on stage 3 in my age category

Brilliant weekend!

Brilliant weekend.  Weather was mint yet again, as is usually the case with Boltby. Trails had afew greasy spots in the shade yesterday to keep you honest but they'd mostly gone today (Apart from the slop before the field on Stage 3 which nearly got me!)  Not arsed about stage times TBH its all about the fun! (12m.32s FWIW)

Brilliant weekend. 1 minute quicker than my time last year. Only 12.19, but 680th out of 1025 puts a bit of distance from my dismal 1st year 'firmly in the bottom 10%' showing.

Familiarity, a new bike, and a bit of confidence/skills development all helped.

Only done it once, 2 years ago, but its the best of its type I've done. Mini DBW #00001 has been talking about wanting to do it next year now he's old enough so looks like I might be following a really fast, over confident teenager around next year 😀

Really good weekend and perfect weather as always! I rode very badly last year but I was back to my usual mid-pack performance coming in 75th out of 163 in grand vets🤣
