You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
What's the verdict on this race? Historially I've done a few XC races, cyclocross, MTB orienteering but a bit unfit and fat after a few years of vague illnesses and injuries so just getting bak into it on my new Giant Trance. Do-able for someone for whom big air is 2 inches off the ground?
I did it last year and enjoyed it. The transition from stage 3 to 4 was brutal and really finished me off. There were nothing you had to jump or any drops or anything. Although I found a couple of the stages to have some steep loose loamy bits that I have never ridden anything like it and couldn't get the hang of. Having said that I'm hoping to do it again next year. I have to improve in pretty much coming last.
It's the only enduro I've done by the way so I have nothing to compare it to.
Anyway here's some highlights of my practice day.
hoping to get to this. Just how technical vs fit do you have to be?
Quite fancy this too, never done it before but did this years Ard Moor and the previous two Ard Rock events. Tickets go on sale on Friday at 8pm.

Fit yes. Its quite a big loop 23ish miles especially if you do practice too.
*edit* Its actually 20 miles

Techincal. Not the worse enduro I have done but there are few nadgery bits. As with most enduros everything is doable it just how fast you do them at makes it tricky.
so 20 miles with 1000 metres of climbing, sounds a decent ride and nothing overly heavy for anyone living in the lakes, peaks or pennines.
do i need to be online 8am to buy, does it sell out real quick,
if its good enough for the ard rock promoter, it should be a belter
Thanks markshires for the reply inc video!
[do i need to be online 8am to buy, does it sell out real quick,] i thought tickets went on dale at 8pm?
@jaylittle you are quite right, 8pm friday 24th, for some reason its in my head it was Thursday 8am.
do tickets sell out fast ?
They didnt last year AFAIK.
They didn't last year, not sure when they actually went on sale but I didn't buy mine until at least February time. That's not to say that they won't this year. But I think they have increases capacity too.
tickets on sale 8pm
Well thats the first race of 2018 booked 😀
Im a bit soft and never done it before.... sportif!
I'm in! Last place has officially been taken!
I'm also in for the North of England Enduro Championships @ Boltby. I'm hoping nobody else checks the box and I win by default.
I'm in 🙂
@fooman I checked the box, but you can have first if I come second I'll be more than happy!
I'm in! Just need to get fit now.
Good reports of this from riding buddies, so booked our places for next year.
It's one of my regular local riding spots (was up there tonight in fact) there's some cracking lines , I'd certainly recommend it
I’m also in. For now
What do you mean for now??
It'll be an ace weekend, even if you just come for the post riding fun 😉
Changed from the sportive to the enduro as I didn't read it properly. Thought the Sportive was just a more relaxed endure but its timed from start to finish!
For those that know the area, how hardtail (Stanton Switchback)friendly is it? Would it make much difference compared with 160mm bike?
One of the lads that did it last year with us rode around on his 45650b, although only cause he snapped his alpine the week before. I should imagine he'll be doing it on the alpine this year though.
Having said that I did send a few doing it on hardtails though.
fair play to anybody tackling these events on a hard tail.
im in,
slighty concerned that the race is on the sunday after saturday with some friends 🙂
cant wait
I'm in.
Veteran of 1 previous enduro at FoD this year, and that was only a mini!
Hoping the Boltby will play to my strengths and be a bit more pedally!

It's fine on a hardtail, I ride that area every couple of weeks or so on a fully rigid Krampus and haven't died yet.
YMMV obvs 😉
Andybrad, don't you pretend you have friends 🙂
Less than 2 weeks to go with barely any training, and I've totally lost my biking mojo. Think I might struggle with this one...
If anyone has any tickets they want to get rid of..... 🙂
Try on their FB page.
not far off now, the full sus isnt ready so out with the hardtail.. cant wait
Looking forward to it. I'm keeping mud tyres on for now in the hope of confusing the weather gods.
It will still be wet/greasy in the woods, minions are staying on my bike.
Gaz.dick - if you drop me an email I have a friend that can't make the event so hes looking to move the ticket on. Also put an ad in the for sale section.
Got a ticket going if anyone still looking.
Also got accom booked, I can cancel this at no cost but if someone wants a nice place for the night before I'll pass it on
Cheeky bump...
Booked onto this ages ago, doing the 'sportive'. Has anyone else done this previously?
We are only coming up for the day, and they reckon I need to be there by 7am to sign on ahead of a mass start at 8am.
Bit confusing, as that means all the 'racers' will be catching up with the pootlers, but oh well.
We were going to all stay over, do Saturday practice, camp, have many burgers and beers etc but work, pregnant partners etc has poo-poo'd all that fun.
I'll take the entry if you can get the name (and gender :-p) changed over 🙂
will be up with a load from calderdale MBC on sat. Look out for the slow ones (that'll be me) and the drunk ones (me again)
Im stating my training tonight if i can. Else ill start on Wednesday.....
Started my training at the weekend. Buggered my rear mech last night. Prep isn't going well!
Celebrating my 20 year wedding anniversary whilst we're there too, what else could possibly go wrong?
I have an entry but due to a clash I can't use it - if anyone's interested in taking my place please get in touch asap - a small donation to a charity of your choice would be nice if you want it.
I have no idea if we can still change the name etc at this stage
How did we all do? It was absolutely STUNNING today! Best days riding I've ever had possibly, we practiced on Saturday and despite having slightly heavy legs for the race, felt really good, and once onto the stages it was fantastic. I'm no Richie Rude, but hit every line, stayed upright all day, smashed some berms, hit the jumps, I was literally whooping and Yee-Haw'ing my way round all day.
New bike behaved too, first proper big ride out on my Stage Four and I loved it.
Some quality photos from the assorted photog's too!

I was there! (watching my lad)
Hope the rider who got a lift in the air ambulance from section 2 is ok.
It Was a great day, absolutely brilliant, really well organised and jeez it’s grown since 2016. esselgruntfuttock I spoke with one of his mates who said he was in ok spirits despite a pretty serious crash, hopefully a lot was precautionary and he makes a quick recovery.
Loved it! Weather was fantastic and the tracks were great. Managed to marginally improve to more firmly mid-pack than previous enduros.
Thoroughly enjoyed it - first enduro on the hardtail; rode it all well, but certainly not as fast or competitive as I had been in previous enduro's!
Managed to get away in the first wave 830, completed in 3hrs - was a lonely race as I was ahead of most of my wave (was 4th across the line) and just behind most of the sportive!
Headphones in and blasting around Yorkshire Moors, can't say it was disappointing!
top doo. all the folks at CMBC had an awesome time. Some nasty crashes but plenty of smiles (and beer) all round.
just needed showers.
Hope it doesnt loose its chilled out vibe 🙂 weather was incredible. can we book the same weather for next year?
Anyone know what happened to the guy that had a heart attack?
just needed showers.
Shower bags were great in this heat! that and a pop up shower tent! most welcome to wash the dust off!
my bike is covered in some kind of really fine powdered mud. i dint know what to do with it. Did anyone else have this issue?
Had a fantastic weekend, the traols were fun and the weather amazing. Wasn't really riding my best and losing 1m30s due to a wrong turn on stage 3 didn't help with my overall time!
Anyone else think the taping on 3 as you came out of the field could've been better?
i honestly had no idea where i was going half of the time. full on target fixation on nearly every turn. Shocking on my side 🙂
Hope the rider who got a lift in the air ambulance from section 2 is ok.
I was the marshall/first aider on Stage 2 at the accident.
The latest information I received late night was that he was out off the neck brace and awaiting some more tests from consultants. Which is a really good sign.
He fell on the course and due to the nature of his injury we had no option but to close the stage, with the hope that it would reopen but sadly it just took to long so the stage remained closed. Its a real shame to those who didn't get to ride the stage sunday, but it was out of our hands.
Anyone know what happened to the guy that had a heart attack?
He is also doing ok.
I had an awesome day Saturday, my riding has definitely improved since last year! Unfortunately I couldn't make the race on Sunday which was a shame! Here's a little vid I made of my day!
Aye was a good gig, first time for me and will look to do it again next year.
Shame about the lad and stage 2 getting shut down, was a great stage in practice, sounds like it's not as bad as first sounded if he's out of the neck brace. Hope he gets well soon.
Yep, proper good fun, really relaxed with stunning weather, riding the transition to stage 4 I felt I could have been down by the med. Finding stage 2 closed and seeing the helicopter and ambulance was slightly sobering, glad they are doing ok. I certainly hope to be back next year.
I couldn't resist buying this - look how happy I was!
