Can't believe what i am seeing here, am i the only one that thinks they are complete and utter morons.
I'm with you fergal
what's the issue?
Could they have picked a better day ? Hardly responsible access . No wonder rhe english are banned from riding half their country side with acts like that.
Only way to ride the ben considerately is to be descending at first light
i'd say truley inspirational myself.... Wonderful!

i cant understand why you would want to ride down the busiest walking path in the uk.
takes all sorts i suppose.
I think you'll find that the Bogtrotters are fairly well known for not giving a shit about access issues, or any subsequent problems that may ensue.
As long as they had a good time, Eh?
just as insensitive as walkers violating the Ben on a BH I guess :o) Of course it should be reserved for the sheep...

so morally it's wrong but legally they are fine are we entering Jimmy carr tax avoidance territory here?
to be fair the descent looked shite anyways.
when people say "sensitivity" they mean "appeasement"
Access in Scotland is governed by the principle of responsibility.philfive - Member

Well said druidh folk being morons will just see the laws of those that cannot abide by responsible access imposed on us scots.
and a little also here....... also, how the heck can it be fun having to slow down and steer round all those folk?
They didn't run anyone over, so that's responsible. at the end of the day we should all be able to have access to all areas and aslong as people are polite and respectful then I see no issues.
I agree Ton it did look rubbish but if they enjoyed it then fine.
Told ya.
And as much as TJ is an immovable object, so is Simon.
SFB in sensational argumental return shocker.
Knew you wouldn't be able to resist this thread Barnesy. 😀
Like Olympic flame watching, can't see the appeal but each to their own.
Might have a different opinion if they were caning it past people.
Was muted for me,maybe they added to their nesbitness with audio?

😳 oh so much to learn.... comments noted and taken on board
People passed safely and politely, riders looked pretty much in control and prepared to stop/dismount when needed.
Not my cup of tea for a ride but can't see a major problem really if you're up there and get a spur of the moment urge, then why not.......
Simonfbarnes do you not see how ridiculous you guys look in the eyes of the public, while out enjoying yourselves en mass pony trekking on bicycles, you do not have the right to ride agressively at those thousands of tourists, youre chums were not riding responsibly, i ride bikes down mountains, it doesn't give me the right to behave like an idiot.
Watch the whole video painfull that it is, they ride at people to make them move, saying thanks does not make this acceptable.
As they said. Your access in Scotland is not a unqualified right. It is qualified by the need to be reasonable and this simply is not reasonable under the access code. Also in the few mins I saw they rode off the edge of the built path.
Ride the mountain if you want - but not on a busy bank holiday day and you should be giving way to pedestrians on narrow parts
Access rights extend to cycling. Cycling on hard surfaces, such as wide paths and tracks, causes few problems. On narrow routes, cycling may cause problems for other people, such as walkers and horse riders. If this occurs, dismount and walk until the path becomes suitable again. Do not endanger walkers and horse riders: give other users advance warning of your presence and give way to them on a narrow path. Take care not to alarm farm animals, horses and wildlife.

simonfbarnes - Memberwhen people say "sensitivity" they mean "appeasement"
No - something you clearly do not understand. co operation and sharing.
Access in Scotland is built around a consensus and sharing.
philfive - Memberso morally it's wrong but legally they are fine
Legally wrong as well - once you fail to obey the code and its guidance you no longer are behaving responsibly so have lost your right of access
People passed safely and politely, riders looked pretty much in control and prepared to stop/dismount when needed.
Not good enough read the code. Far too close and fast, should be giving way to walkers and riding off the edge of the paths not on the built surface
but TJ i don't believe they did. they were polite and respectful. I respect what you said above but it have seen much much worse on the trails.
I was hoping to be outraged at seeing 50 boggies on one of their mass outings, but there only seem to be a couple of bikers, and as much drama as cycling through Fort William town centre on a Sunday morning. Have I watched the wrong video?
And as much as TJ is an immovable object, so is Simon.
honestly it had nothing whatever to do with me 🙂
No - something you clearly do not understand. co operation and sharing.
no, we sociopaths are weak on that - however, it seems a prima facie case of Bogtrotters sharing the mountain with walkers who mostly cooperatively cheered them on!
How do you manage to get a 28 min video on utube?
I think the sort of anti-mountainbiking toss I'm reading here is a lot of the reason I abandoned the site to the fatuous armchair warriors who inhabit it!
Don't care if you have seen worse - that is not acceptable. They should have been giving way to the walkers. In fact arguably they shouldn't have been on the mountain at that time of that day at all.
Certainly to be riding at groups of people at the speeds some of those were and forcing them off the path is not on at all.
give other users advance warning of your presence and give way to them on a narrow path.
Our access is based on being responsible, to ride ben nevis on a busy day is not responsible, to fail to give way to a groups of walkers climbing a narrow path is not responsible
Good to know you are as open to others' viewpoints as ever Simon.
You've been missed.
Fellas, both Simon and TJ, I'd just agree to disagree if I were you. The internet might just break...
SFB - yo mean people who want you to ride legally and reasonably?
The bogtrotters were being utter idiots on that vid and rightly condemmed
Good to know you are as open to others' viewpoints as ever Simon.
it's mutual :o)
TJ has already webdiagnosed me as a sociopath so it's only due to "Care in the community" I'm even allowed out to bother the normal people...
9:30 or thereabouts. The woman coming uphill has to take evasive action OFF the path because there is a biker coming downhill at her.hilldodger - Member

TJ you won't be moved but you are being a little pedantic, i rode down dollywagons in the lakes and there were a lot more walkers on it than that video, plus it is a lot narrower but i had no issues, i had a laugh with the walkers and all those that moved did so because we have to share the route not becuase i was going to run them over.
again my opinion is they have done nothing wrong, probably could of picked a less busy day so they could of had a better descent but hey ho at least they were polite.
i respect your opinion of course and that of others who have said they are out of order.
TJ, it doesn't matter where the trail is. There are plenty of tracks like that in the Peaks, Lakes, Wales, all with the same rights of access and (by and large), regardless of the give way code (ie MTBers are supposed to give way to anything and everything cos we're the lowest of the low), most sensible walkers will stand aside and let a descending biker through. It's easier for all concerned.
I don't see a problem with that video. Two bikers, both being polite. Various, mostly polite, walkers. All out enjoying themselves.
Was getting a bit bored until I chanced on this 😀
Think a beer from the fridge and a comfy sofa is called for....
The next time there's a thread on this forum or an article elsewhere on the website decrying the fact that bike access in England and Wales is restricted, someone need merely post a link to this thread to see why.
Philfive - this is not in the lakes. this is in Scotland. Read the guidence I quoted.
To force walkers off the path is not acceptable. You have to give way to them.
oh god don't mention Dollywaggon to ol' TJ or he'll have a frikken embolism 🙁
hey Granville!! (AKA pennine)
crazy-legs - MemberTJ, it doesn't matter where the trail is.
Yes it does. Its in Scotland Read the guidance. Its not the same as a bridleway.
You are not being reasonable therefore have no right to access if you behave like that. Clear and simple.
I'm thinking of a colour and I'm thinking of two things you might find in a kitchen.
One starts with P and one starts with K.
Can you guess what they are?
decrying the fact that bike access in England and Wales is restricted
actually, it isn't, that's just a myth. I've been testing it for many years without let or hindrance...

TJ. That cuts both ways. For ANYONE to force anyone else off a public right of way is out of order. Be that a biker forcing s walker or the other way round. I've been forced off trails before by horse riders, walkers, 4x4s... Equally, I'm sure I could find a walker or 3 who can claim to have been forced off by a biker. Not right but it happens occasionally, almost always cos of people being stupid. Either the ones doing the forcing or the self righteous twunts who don't take the common sense approach and adopt the "I have right of way so I'm not moving".
I knew someone would say that!
How about I'm thinking of the other bit of a Zebra crossing that is not the white bit?
Err - I dunno what you are on about but the rest of us are discussing that Youtube video.crazy-legs - Member

racialist
No crazy legs - not in Scotland read the guidance. Cyclists have to give way to walkers. Numerous walkers were forced of the path by these idiots.
give other users advance warning of your presence and give way to them on a narrow path.
Oh no, I forgot about Mr. Woppit!
but those rules are subjective, some poeple say they are riding with disregard others say they are fine. it's all open to interpretation.
Putting aside responsible access for a moment, why would you choose to do that? 'Because I can'?
It's just a crap idea.
Is the clue not in the name, "Guidance"?
exactly Paul.
why would you choose to do that?
I suppose because they wanted to, and they enjoyed it ?
I didn't think they were acting too badly. The video reminds me how that route up Ben Nevis is one of the most soul destroying paths in the country. Tower Ridge would have been a far more interesting descent!
That's from the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, a document which was drawn at the request of the Scottish Government up to outline what was and wasn't considered to be responsible access as defined by the Land Reform(Scotland) Act - i.e. it carries significant legal weight.paulrockliffe - Member
Is the clue not in the name, "Guidance"?
Phil / paul. the guidence makes up a part of the law in that its how your "responsible" access is defined. You have an absolute duty to give way to walkers on narrow paths, they did not do this. They were forcing walkers off the path
It are open to interpretation - but this is clearly a breach of the guidance thus the code. No way could riding like that be considered "giving way"
None of the folk who thing this acceptable are Scottish riders ( I think) who understand the Scottish consensus on land access
Quick look through the posting history of those saying they cant see the issue , they all seem to reside in england
All those sayng its stupid are living in scotland
pattern , i think so. Just like lager louts in marbella acting like its manchester on a friday night
Just keep pissing the locals off , knock your self out! As long as you have a good time and we are left picking up the pieces

Er.... I'm not in Scotland and I said it was stupid. Never been to Marbella either. Nice bit of anti-English stereotyping though. 🙄
PS Would that be Manchester on a Friday night when it's full of Rangers fans? 😉
Given that at least two of the "antis" are English (one may have forgotten that fact 🙂 ), I don't think you could accuse trail_rat of racial stereotyping.
Who are rangers ? You mean the newco surely ?
I can see the issue, I've never been to Marbella, I've been out in Manchester on a Friday night and I'm a Sagittarian.
Is this helping?
Possibly more useful than the previous post 🙂

The CMD Arete has a lot of appeal.
