Basically just havering, ignore me
I've done it.
Spent about 3 quid on appropriately sized washers for the axles and disc. Worked fine but wasn't really comfortable riding it like that long term.
Yeah I just decided I'm not doing it for someone else when they'll be away out of reach if it goes wrong, not cool. Cheers though!
Certainly makes no sense now.
I was impressed with your willingness to machine parts mind... sounded like quite the potential project.
I would. I've done it write a few times. It gets easier, then it gets harder again. Then easier, when you've figured out the parts that don't matter so much and which bits are important. Good luck!

The trouble with any compartmentalised situational observational decree such as the one in question is the fear of leaving yourself open to criticism, which on an open forum can often lead to hasty exclamations of “Godwin’s” , thankfully this is not one of those situations so I figure you have gotten away with it, well done.........have a lollipop

Decisiveness is the key. Either do it or don't do it. Once you've decided, stick with it.
The left hand threaded differential compression spigot nut is what you needed for your project, preferably sintered.
No need to be shy about it.
