Looking for some sage advice from STW regarding single wheel trailer! I am looking to both reduce my car usage for things like shopping (currently shopping for two households so my panniers aren't cutting it) and to eventually use it for a three week trip on landrover tracks/easy single track (normally use bike packing/pannier kit but require more volume).

Currently looking at both Bob Ibex or Burley Coho. Anyone had any experiences with either or recommend an LBS that does? Thanks

I've had a single wheel trailer and a burley two wheel trailer(burley travoy). the two wheel trailer was much more useful and user friendly (even was able to move bags of gravel in the burley with no problems. The problems with single wheel trailers is that when loaded they dont like to stay upright and will pull the bike over before you get on the bike. I ended up fitting sidestands to mine. I never used either off road, but for shopping the burley was superior - you can even wheel them round the supermarket. Burley travoys are great for shopping. I eventually got rid of mine as i could get my groceries in two panniers.

Ime single wheel for off road with lighting loads whilst having a fight with it to stop the bike falling over before you get on/whilst loading.

Double wheel for heavy loads and smooth trips whilst being slightly easier to load/unload.

Pretty sure the coho xc has a stand that stops the trailer tipping over..as well as a shock to ease the bouncing when off road. That'd be the one I went for.. Especially if you have boost dropouts.

Years ago I did a long solo trip (bit over five weeks) round bits of him and and Germany with a Bob ibex carrying pretty much all of my kit. In general I found it to brilliant; the only time I wasn’t too fond of it was trying to get the bike and fully loaded trailer onto a train with a raised doorway (but then that wasn’t really the trailers fault).

If you’re interested I still have the trailer, bag and QR skewer in the shed despite having not used them in quite a few years now.

If he isn't, I am 😁

I have a bob yak. Great bit of kit and I have had up to 50 kgs in it. No problems with it at all.
