My lad has seen one of these on the Halfords website. It looks a great bike for the money as a flat bar gravel bike. (This is from a Diverge rider who thinks that's a great bike, but would feel better with a flat bar).
He's about the same size as me (180cm, or 5'11") and likes the fit of my bikes but looking at the Boardman site he falls between M and L. Instinctively I said "You're an L, as you have your saddle higher than me" until I looked at the specs. The L looks a proper gate, and the only review I can find (Reddit - and I'm immediately on edge) seems to think a 5'11" rider found the drop bar version a bit big in L, but the flat bar version spot on in M. Â
Now I know there's a theory that we're all riding bikes that are too small, but I'd be grateful for opinions, real world or speculative - either will be welcome.
At a shade under 5'10" and 32" cycling inseam, if the small came with a 400mm seatpost, depending on the day I honesty think I could happily ride any size... Although I'd probably go medium!
My Marasa hybrid is ~425mm reach with a 60mm stem, my Wazoo fatbike was similar reach iirc but I switched to a 110mm stem. My road bike is 388mm reach with 110mm stem, my gravel is 405mm reach with 90mm stem. All approx 71.5cm BB to saddle top.
To me, even the large doesn't look massive, with only 445mm reach and 612mm stack with an 80mm stem and 740mm bars.
I was looking at the Boardman URB last year and at 5ft11 with my other bikes being large I assumed I would be a large on the Boardman too but when I sat on them the medium felt the better fit and the large felt like a gate with poor stand over clearance for my precious cargo! In the end I opted against one.
