Road bikes in particular.
If you can deal with buying from Halfords, then the bikes themselves are blimmin great.
Got on really well with the carbon road bike ( the posh one ) I borrowed for a couple of weeks riding in France.
great bikes, you can't go wrong unless....
You're a BMW, VW Transporter, Iphone, kind of person.
Great bikes and nothing wrong with them.
yay, definitely
Yay awesome VFM

Oi! I've got a transporter (albeit an old T4 shortnose one) 😛
I got a second hand comp three years ago as my first road bike and I've no inclination to change it, it's great.
I also love my iPhone 😉
I bought a Boardman Road Team in 2008, it was a bargain and I really liked it, it did me a few sportives and duathlons as well as general bimbling about. halfords can be hit or miss, the store i used in weston super mare were ace and proper cyclists. if you dont trust them, order it online, buy it boxed and take it home, build it yourself and never go back.
the frames are made by merida who, according to wikipedia, own 49% of specialised which is interesting...
Generally get great reviews. I'd consider one, if I didn't already have 3 road bikes.
They are good. Especially for the price. The only downside is you have to go through Halfords and there is no separate Boardman company to get spares from.
Yup very good
Yay. What is not to like?
As above, great bikes if you can deal with Halfords.
Went for a razz around on one of the entry level FS bikes the other day and couldn't believe how great it felt in pretty much all aspects. Insane VFM.
I got the 2010 team carbon and it has been great, haven't done as many miles as I should have, but it has been spot on all the time.
Only joking loco.
i bought the GF a FS Comp back in May. it's been fine and the VFM is crazy when compared to other more established brands.
the HTs are a little too XC for me. never looked at the road stuff.
if only they did a LT steel HT....
I really like my Boardman Team
Just a shame it was built by a moron - but if you can get it on a tax dodging C2W scheme like I did, it can be quite profitable (enough to offset the pain of halfords) - also I ordered mine via quidco & got £38 cashback too
BB30 on mine failed at 60 miles - so decided to take it to a LBS to fix, and claimed back the money unwillingly from Halfords, rather than have the YTS workshop manager take it out with his hammer.
See, when you've been riding a road bike for longer than a year or so, you begin to understand that it really, really, really isn't about the bike. When you've had your arse handed to you on a plate by kids on crappy old bikes, or by old guys on rusty antiques, you begin to get the idea.
You don't have to buy through Halfords only ! They are available in other bike shops now! The contract for exclusivity with Halfords is now up! My LBS has them!
Chris had a spot on tdf and he said that they have 10 other dealers in the UK for there professional bikes, they would sell or be able to get the whole range, an alternative to Halfords.
Sorry there elite range, he is a list of LBS.

Bought mine through Halfords using a variety of combined discounts and took it away boxed. It took barely more effort to put together compared to any other bike had it been bought mail order. It's a great bit of kit IMHO.
As wiggle sell them to Europeans, any chance of them selling to inside UK if the exclusivity deal has finished?
I'd say yes -
I've got a 2010 'Sport' hardtail, which has been brilliant (swapped a few bits since i've had it, but that is through choice)
I also got a 2012 'Comp' Hybrid a couple of months back.. again its great.
Both bought on C2W so even better VFM...
I've every intention of getting either a full susser MTB or a drop-bar road bike in a year or so from them (depending on how much road or MTB stuff I do between now and then)
I'd never buy a bike from Halfords, but I did seriously consider a 2nd hand Boardman crosser off the classifieds.
when i bought the GF's bike from Halfords i used a voucher code (google for it) which gave me 10% off and then if you spent more than 10 quid in store you got another 50 quid off the price of the bike.
so 860 quid including three innertubes rather than the 1k list price.
hmmm... if wiggle are selling them to europe i might have a look at a road bike.
I bought one cheap from Halfords on a special offer.
The first frame was cracked.
The second one was ok till the headset wouldn't stop creaking on the 4th ride.
The parts/finishing kit was spot on.
The ride position was sporty bt comfortable.
For a first road bike it is fine.
Keep and use for a few years then upgrade to a new bike.
There's a lot of snobbery about Boardman bikes due to the retailer. If you take some time to look around the bike once you get it and check everything you will be fine.
IMO you won't find a better value for money bike than the Boardmans spec wise.
