I have an olympic BMX track near my house[img]
[/img] and I want to go and try it out to try and improve my pumping technique.
2 questions...
1. Will it bugger my 32 Float FIT RLC 2012 fork if i use it locked out?
2. Are the rollers on a BMX track close enough to practise pumping?
1. dunno but a few folks ride locked out mtb at tracks I know
2. some should be, 3rd & 4th straights judging by that pic.
Ta very much!
If thats a international level BMX course then the jumps are going to be massive especially for a novice. I've only seen a couple tracks and the jumps were huge, it was very impressive to see the pros clearing them.
Many forks have a blow off valve, which allows the fork to move for big impacts to prevent damage to the fork when locked out. Check your fork has a similar feature. If not just wind the low speed compression to max.
Bear in mind rollers will be made with 20 & 24" wheels in mind, rollers always seem 'abrupt' on anything bigger,
My advice is to buy a cheap cruiser ( 24" ), this will really help..
Jairaj - the track was built during one of the many failed Madrid candidacies to host the olympic games so it's probably going to be pretty daunting.
Tymbian - If i buy another bike my wife will kill me!
I'll just rock up and see how it goes. I'm pretty sure I won't be clearing any jumps, i just want to have a go on the rhythm sections.
Just looked at some YouTube footage of track, there's nothing to big on the track, just run of the mill stuff. I wonder how old it is as it look quite tame for an international standard track, defo not of olympic spec. All looks fine for a mtb, if a little techy deep on some of the rhythm section. Don't worry about locking forks out, just firm them up a bit if you can.
Just go and do it and have fun.
Went along this evening. Was amazing fun. I'm probably doing it all wrong but it was pretty easy to get loads of speed off the rollers. I didn't do any jumps as I'm going on a MTB holiday in 10 days and don't want to mess it up but with some practice I think I might build up to it.
I could not believe how tiring it was though! I was done after an hour when I can pedal for so much longer.
