Been getting this occasionally, usually just one eye (I think always the left) and lasts most of the next day following a hard evening ride. Anyone had similar?
I'm guessing it's blood pressure and / or hypoglycemia related. I'm not diabetic ( as far as I know).
I do eat a couple of hours before riding but only a sachet of uncle bens microwave rice usually before leaving work. Ride 3 hours ish but don't feel the need to eat during this time. Drink fairly well (squash) but finish in a pub for 3 or 4 pints and maybe some chips. I might then eat when I get home about midnight. So not really a great recovery strategy!
I've got access to a blood pressure monitor so may record findings with this. And perhaps try eating better and drinking less! Any other suggestions?
Book an appointment with an optometrist for first thing one morning and get out the night before, giving it some yahoo. You'll likely get the best answer that way and some sensible reassurance.
Most of the next day? See your GP.
Sod the GP. Find an Ophthalmologist. GP’s are not specialists and frequently miss problems related to the eye.
I was told blurred vision after excersize was an indicator of heart issues. I have no idea hwat sort of blurred vision was the concern, and am not a doctor, but I would be tempted to get it looked at
Not to alarm you, but I suffered the same for several years. In my case, my failure to take action may have contributed to my having a stroke.
Unknown to me, I had a quite common defect in my heart called a PFO whereby blood could pass within the heart from the un-oxygenated side to the oxygenated side. The leak was at it's greatest when the heart was working hardest. My heart enlarged to compensate and this led to an even greater rate of leakage. I was starving my brain of oxygen and the area of my brain which was affected first was the area which processes information from the eyes. After very hard exercise (100% effort) I would have blurred vision and blind spots for several hours, often accompanied by a head ache.
One time after a mountain bike race, it was particularly bad - I was tripping over things due to a blind spot. The vision never recovered. The oxygen starvation had caused permanent damage.
I went to an optician who saw quickly that the blind spot was in both eyes (I had thought just one eye) and hence it was a brain injury. I had other symptoms and spent a lot of time in hospital and recovery. The PFO was closed with an implant inserted through an artery and other than the vision damage (which my brain does a decent job in compensating) I am back to normal.
Worth getting checked out.
Schweiz- sobering stuff. Glad things have worked out for you. I'll start with an ophthalmologist and take it from there.
Retinal migraine due to dehydration ?
Diplothia has a few nasty options that can cause it. To the GP with you.
My friend recently had just this, was due to high pressure in his eye from pigment that had been rubbed off his iris from being short sighted blocking however the pressure is supposed to be relieved. Was picked up by an optician and now he is having it resolved and then will be back on the bike. Don't ignore it like he did as he has now lost some of his range of vision although fortunately only on the periphery where you don't really notice.
