Feel free to post the pic of the guy inflating the penguin. .
Maxxis Rekon . 2.4 ust , half worn maybe. Was a faff to inflate but got it seated , could hear it creaking and picked it up and flipped it over in my hands to see where the noise was coming from
B A N G . and I am deaf .
There is a high pitched whine in my ears. My shorts are liberaly covered in Joes Eco Green wheel jizz, my T shirt resembles a plasterers radio . I might have wee'd a little bit
Check my fingers are attatched to my hands , they are so thats all good.
Check my eyes are still intact and functioning correctly ... tick
Check for blood , missing limbs etc , all in their correct position and functioning
With my ears still ringing i check the tyre . One bead has deformed where it escaped the rim . Its now got a 6" C shape in it and looks like its been folded badly and left like that for a while. Is it worth trying to run it tubed ? I think its now stretched and deformed so it wont go up with the garden sprayer inflator, its alot looser on the rim and think its had it. Is this normal?
Not sure my nerves will even take another high pitched ping when a stubborn bead seats successfully though . by christ they are loud when they pop in your hands . was rock solid tho .
It can do, yes...
If the tyre is visibly damaged, then please, do not use it. If it is inside the manufacturers warranty period, or you think you may have a claim under the Consumer Rights Act 1979, then get in touch with the shop you bought it from with a proof of purchase and ask the question...
But I'll reiterate, if it's damaged, PLEASE don't use it...
I would say it's days are numbered. A mate did the same last year and then tried to run the tyre tubed and it was the worst day ever. I think we had to stop and fix either a tyre off the rim or puncture about 8 times before everything gave up it was time to walk.
Probably, yes. The bead isn't very stretchy so to get it big enough to pass over the rim is often too much for it.
does it bork them?
Yes, throw it in the bin.
Just to add another voice to the consensus - it's very likely that it's damaged if the bead is as you describe. I wouldn't be using it.
Yes in your case, that sounds like the bead has actually snapped inside the rubber.
I've had a loose kenda tyre pop off before, but it was just loose, worked fine with a tube. If it's damaged/deformed then bin it.
Sounds like it's screwed.
I wouldn't bother trying it with a tube either, it'll likely rotate round the rim pulling off the valve stem leaving you with a long walk home🙁
LOL... did that at 2am once in the kitchen.
In my case the tyre was fine after ... the way you're describing yours sounds borked though.
I did that in the back of my Citroen Berlingo once. Tyre was, like yours, toast. The inside of the back of the car was covered in tyre jizz... 🙁
had a kenda ice tire pop off the rim .... it was toast after... what a racket
Yes, mostly likely dead. You may be able to feel a break in the bead with your fingers too.
What pressure did you pump it up to?
I will agree, but caveat with the fact that my front is like that and has been for about 18 months (it's now fully knackered anyway so being changed as soon as tweeks delivery my soddin replacements)..
Is it not more that the bead was never strong enough, or too slack, rather than it's been damaged?
Either way, it's crept off once.,.it's not going to stay on again.

It sounds damaged to me...

cynic-al

The can break and stretch, too- I had a conti blow off on holiday last year, we were looking at it on the ground going "it looks bigger on that side than the other, probably just an optical illusion..." flipped it over, nope, bead had "grown" so much you could see it.
It sounds damaged to me…
And to me - my point wasn't "either or" more "both"...but more importantly unusable.
And in a bizarre resurrection ... having put a new tyre on OH's bike and waiting for her to ride it and slosh sealant about I pumped it up good and hard and after sticking it in the bath could see the tyre was leaking through the sidewalls... No prob... I'll just take it for a ride.... 10 miles to the singletrack and let some pressure out of the highly over inflated tyre before going offroad ... after 9 miles there was a gunshot... tyre blown off the rim completely and wrapped round the chainstay and best case 5-6 mile walk. Handpump wouldn't even go over without the valve core
To my genuine surprise after re-fitting the tyre it actually went back up very easily on a 2015 WTB i23 audibly seated and did 20 miles or so single-track and 10 miles on the road after.
